Right from the start I could tell that the system was designed around actor oriented programming principles and I suggested that we use an existing actor programming library instead of doing it by hand with golang channels. After a month of work to integrate the library and 2 more months to redesign part of the system our code had shrunk by more than 40%, the design was easily understandable and the speed of the system increased 50x thanks to the use of the lock free queues provided by the library. I also added tools to debug and test the system that helped us to go forward without regression.
