In my experience, writing clean code is more important than ever. Systems become more and more complex, more and more people are working on the same code base and languages provide more and more features. All this trends can easier be dealt with by keeping code simple, clean, well-tested and documented. Building well-designed systems is hard, but it is even harder to keep them that way while adding new features and ironing out bugs.
