I believe the barrier to entry for many beginning developers is nailing down the fundamentals, and that's what I'm here to help with. The fundamentals aren't necessarily the hardest to grasp, but "unconscious competence" can often blind more senior developers to their existence. As a result, their explanation tends to be omitted from most tutorials, replaced instead with words like "just", "of course", and "trivially". I'm sure I've been guilty of these omissions myself, but when I have a mentee in front of me that's stuck, I'm dogged in my pursuit to identify where the gaps in their knowledge lie, and how to forever sew them shut. And because this road can be a long and difficult one, I also know that it helps to have a friend by your side through the journey; so more than just helping to navigate new concepts and technical issues, I want to serve as moral support for others who are now where I once was. Through the entire journey, but especially at the beginning, I think having this support can make or break, and I don't want to see anyone broken. As for me, I love learning languages, both programming and natural. When it comes to human languages, I can both read and converse in Japanese, but I'm currently focused on increasing my vocabulary in hopes of comprehending more complicated subject matter. In the world of programming, I love Ruby, tolerate JavaScript (*grin*), and am currently most interested in functional languages. Previously I had been using Elixir quite a bit, but at the moment ML-style languages like Haskell, Elm, and PureScript have been holding most of my attention. Things I'd particularly love to help you with include: * Haskell (getting started or exploring new concepts) * Elm and/or JavaScript (building in-browser applications) * Ruby (getting started or leveling up) * Rails (picking projects, implementing features, exploring libraries, etc.) * web development in general (front- or back-end) If any of this sounds like what you're looking for in a mentor, please don't hesitate to get in touch, even if you'd just like to chat. I'll be looking forward to hear from you!
I have been mentoring junior engineers for **10 years** in various startups and bigger corporations. My latest experience with mentoring was teaching assistant at Le Wagon Tokyo for the final project and 2 years earlier hiring the first team members for a startup directly from bootcamps (**Le Wagon Tokyo** and TechCamp) and training them for 2 years to become fully proficient software engineers. While I can go through explaining the nitty gritty of why your **javascript function is not available in your rails view when you are using webpacker**, my education background is around mathematics and computer science fundamentals so I can also explan difficult concepts found in **functional programming** such as **monads, functors, applicatives**... I am quite versatile having explored pretty much all computer sciences area such as web development (backend **scala, ruby**, c#, frontend javascript, **typescript, vue**, react), mobile development (ios **Objective C and Swift**, Android java and scala) and machine learning (**apache spark**, python scikitlearn and tensorflow). Finally I can also help you with the product management aspect having lead the process from ideation to delivery and managed team on site and remotely and being certified CSM and CSPO by the scrum alliance. Currently I'm working on my own company but I would still like to keep helping people through their engineering journey while supporting myself so that's why I'm here. Looking forward to helping you. Ugo
Hi, I'm Masafumi from Japan. I've been doing a development work with Ruby and Ruby on Rails for 10 years. I've been working as a freelance software developer in most of my career. I'm a big fan of Ruby and Ruby on Rails, particularly because they both value developer happiness and are easy to use. I'd love to share this feeling via mentoring. In addition to my daily job, I do some side projects. I teach in [RailsGirls](http://railsgirls.com/) events more than 10 times. I also started and manage a few Ruby meetups in Japan. I'm the chief organizer of Kaigi on Rails, a yearly tech conference focusing on Rails and web development. I've given talks in some conferences in both Japanese and English. I contribute to Open Source Softwares because I rely on them so much. I maintain my own project called [Alba](https://github.com/okuramasafumi/alba) with more than 200 GitHub Stars.
