Vetted Django developer in Colombia (UTC-5)

English speaker, Pythonista, results delivery lover, and committed life-long learner. I’m passionate about my work, I really believe that technology has the capacity of improving people’s lives in all sectors of society, and its development is a good way to stay creative and useful. I am a 29-year-old Software Engineer. I have been working in software development for almost 8 years. Throughout this time, I have worked with Python as a programming language and Django as a web framework mainly. Since my college time, the experience with Python and Django led me to try to build my own company, This company offered web development services to some clients. This project eventually failed but taught me a lot of things about teamwork and project management. After this, I started to work in the tech areas of several companies: Banco de Bogota , Universidad de los Andes, Easy Solutions (Cixtera) and Comparamejor (startup). These years gave me experience in web development for many domains like financial services, security and fraud prevention, education, and Insurance services. Also, I had the opportunity to work on some freelance web projects. My two last experiences allowed me to work for American companies first as a contractor and finally in a direct way as an engineering contributor, so I'm feeling very confident about working with really diverse teams from all over the world. In the educational field, I have been always interested in helping to build a development community in my native city. At college age, I created the PyGroup, a workgroup for programming teaching with Python language. Lately, I co-organized the Python community in Bogota across open meetups.

**A little about me** Software enthusiast, who likes working and learning with a great and autonomus team. I had worked in several business lines projects like fintech, retail, SaaS, PaaS, custom specific solutions among others. Also I had the chance to worked in freelance projects, and all this experience tought me that no matters how strong are your tech skills, is impossible to launch a successful solution without minimum soft skills like active listening, really good communication with stakeholders, problem solving and teamwork. **What I like** I love facing challenges from business and tech perspective, design and develop solutions for complex problems such as; algorithm to order products in linears based on their type and size (like when you go to a real supermarket), handle vehicles reservations with custom business rules and without break the continuous timeline, migrate entire service from *Flask* to *Django* and get better non functional requirements approach... Because facing this kind of situations improve your logic, the way you solve problems, lets you share and discuss your solution with the team and get useful feedback, read documentation and get first touch with unkown technologies or cloud services exploring the best for the problem and context. All my problem solving mindset is language agnostic but I consider *Python* felxibility allows to create, test, refactor and iterate solutions in a really fast way, its community, third party libraries, the core itself is HUGE so this are main reasons to take Python as my main tech stack. Despite I hasn't a lot of experience in Software Architecture I enjoy to be able to be part of design process, understand in a deeper way how architecture patterns (three-layer, MVC, microservices) impact a system and what kind of tradeoffs have to be handle when choosing any of them. When I had the chance to be part of this process I learn a lot and was one of my biggest challenges in my career, because at that moment I wasn't a senior developer and the "dev team" was build up from the tech lead and myself so talking ,discussing, designing, testing and iterating with teach lead about DB design for all of the microservices, how orchestate and deploy them with serverless framework, find AWS services that fits SaaS needs like Coginito, Lambda, Elasticsearch, S3, IMA, API gateway among others, read docs for each new technology or service, and be align with other teams like devops, frontend and product made me a better engineer from different perespectives. I love to use *neovim* as my IDE, reading tech articles, sharing interesting posts about new technologies (*FastAPI* framework for example), explore tools and scripts that make me feels more productive and lastly I'm becaming a *Golang* enthusiast (I hope to get an opportunity to work with this amazing language) so solve little challenges in Go are one of my fav hobbies rigth now **What I dislike** - Working in an unrespectful team - Feels working alone without any team support - No facing new and great challenges - Have not good work-life balance **Challenges** - I mentioned before but be part of a project from ground is one of the most satisfying challenges I had faced. From take meetings with Product, UI/UX, Frontend teams to get a better understanding of their needs and convert them into technical requirements, to designing, exploring, searching, testing and development of each one of the custom CMS microservices, using best practices, set minimum unit test coverage in CI pipelines, implementing custom middlewares to support multi-tenant design, using async and batch processes when required, avoiding race condition issues when accessing data all this made the greatest challenge. - Understanding a complex platform developed to be a PaaS focused on mobility, this platform has several business rules with high coupling components, so I had to reading and asking many times different components of the code in order to avoid errors when introducing changes to the base code that could broke production environment. One of the most interesting things that I developed here was the first MVP module for shared fleets, a great concept with shared reservations for same vehicles but adding ocation complexity, and outsourcing support. - The first freelance project was a learning process with many mistakes but at the end an interesting experience where I was able to deliver a tech solution for a specific problem. The challenges here were from communication with the client side, estimation of the deliveries and defining deadlines and boundaries for the project. I worked on the backend side for the project using Django to build a custom platform that handles different actions for horizontal property boards, like multiple choise questions, open questions, True/False questions, surveys, reports, documents sharing, voting management system and more. This platform was deployed on Heroku services and allowed this small company to keep alive their business during pandemy
