Senior COBOL Full-Stack Developer - FT Freelance - USA

We’re seeking a highly skilled COBOL engineer for an exciting contract opportunity to modernize a legacy mainframe financial application. This project is set to start in mid-November and will run through the end of March.

Project Overview: The role focuses on evaluating the current state of the mainframe application, including:

• Assessing supported use cases and functionalities
• Reviewing the existing COBOL codebase and integrations
  Delivering a report on key findings
  You will work closely with a Solutions Architect who will lead the design and development of the modernized target platform, optimized for AWS or Azure, and define the necessary tech stack, functional requirements, and technical requirements.

Skills & Requirements:

• COBOL Proficiency: Deep experience in COBOL programming, with a strong understanding of mainframe systems and batch processing.
• Mainframe Expertise: Familiarity with IBM mainframe systems, including JCL, DB2, CICS, and VSAM.
• Application Assessment: Proven experience in analyzing and documenting complex legacy applications, including identifying supported use cases and functionalities.
• Systems Integration: Knowledge of mainframe integrations with third-party systems and data migrations.
• Cloud Platforms: Experience or knowledge in AWS or Azure is beneficial, particularly in cloud migration and modernization contexts.
• Technical Documentation: Ability to produce clear and detailed findings and recommendations.
• Collaboration & Communication: Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with other engineers, architects, and stakeholders.
