Software Developer for ConnectUp Platform Enhancement

Role Overview

We are looking for a developer to work with us enhancing the ConnectUp platform. ConnectUp is dedicated to empowering individuals living with disabilities and their carers by fostering new social connections through our web and mobile applications. We are seeking a developer to enhance and refine the existing app, ensuring it is ready for large-scale implementation and partnership promotion. Your contributions will directly impact the app's usability and functionality, promoting inclusive and accessible social interactions.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate on the enhancement of the ConnectUp app, focusing on improving user experience and functionality.
• Address and resolve issues with the map feature, including geo-tagging accuracy and usability improvements such as resizing map icons.
• Implement a community flagging system for user-generated content to enhance moderation and safety.
• Develop a new Home Screen that provides users with a personalized experience, including tutorials, updates, and relevant event information.
• Integrate external APIs, such as Eventbrite and Meetup, to enrich the app with disabled-friendly events.
• Improve event alert systems to notify users of relevant activities via push notifications or emails.
• Optimize the chat feature to reduce lag and improve performance.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in React and Typescript for front-end development.
• Experience with Django and Python for backend development.
• Strong understanding of database management with Postgres and PostGIS.
• Familiarity with Docker for containerization.
• Experience with Firebase and Twilio for storage and communication solutions.

Nice to Have

• Experience with integrating mapping solutions such as Google Maps.
• Knowledge of integrating third-party APIs like Eventbrite and Meetup.
• Understanding of accessibility considerations in app development.
