I worked on the original youtube comment system. We essentially tok phpforum code and modified it to work with the youtube backend systems which were all php and perl at the time.

I stayed at youtube as a developer for almost 2 years and then I left for a different contract.

In the original app there wasn't much of an actual service. We spent our time writing PHP and JavaScript building as many prototypes as we could do connect old banking systems to our network. I worked on the web team, or the "glue" team as we were called.

Postgres is my favorite ACID compliant RDBMS. I have been using SQL for many, many years now, and I still prefer relational data to schemaless databases. I LOVE MONGODB (but the two do different jobs)

I have been integrating Stripe since they started doing business. I was in the beta. I have done subscriptions, one offs, marketplaces, and stores.

In 2008 I swapped my C# and .Net IDE and Windows box for a Mac and Ruby. Up until a year or two ago 90% of the software I wrote was in Ruby, spanning from sorting 1000s of atmospheric, seismic, solar, and wildlife reporting data from stations around the world to solar panel efficiency algorithms to countless e-commerce websites.

Rails used to be my favorite way to spin up a back end for a postgres database or json api. I have been working with it since early 2008/late 2007. I can build JSON api's and restful backends with great speed using this tool.

Eventually sites grow beyond heroku, and usually, they grow into AWS serviced based platforms. I can help you with that!

Relational databases like MySQL and Postgresql where my bread and butter for many years. I think relationally quite easily.

I have built several pieces of software that either were a blockchain, or involved a blockchain, including forking Bitcoin and Peercoin and building services and abstractions for RPC and clients.

I wrote jQuery for years and years until React came along. Now I never use it, but I still know how to do just about anything in it.

I can spin up linux or bsd servers from scratch, handle security setup, build services, set up things like database and web servers, handle DNS, script these things, and troubleshoop issues. When I am not on my Mac, I am on Linux.

I understand how search engines and their algorithms work, and I know how to use javascript, and ruby, and html to make the best uses of onpage optimization. I also know quite a bit about off page optimization.
