I was responsible for dozens of applications running on less than 100 Solaris machines. On-Call and post-mortems were our weekly routine.

Personally, I also took it upon myself to tutor new engineers.

Application Engineer

Following my immersion into the world of Puppet, through both the work for my customers as well as that for Brainsware — my own company’s infrastructure, I became increasingly active in the Puppet community.

I love automatisation, and I've come to very much appreciate the culture and spirit of the DevOps and Configuration Management Communities.

About a year ago I ran into iocage, an Open Source FreeBSD jails manager written in Python. I just wanted to contribute a few fixes — but that quickly escalated into a fork & rewrite of the project.
Ever since I've been pairing up with the author of that project to design, implement and test the rewrite of that project.

Since my very first employment at Bwin I've been working as a bridge between Development and Operations (and Testing and…) although back then we didn't have the words to describe all the cultural impacts yet.

I've been giving talks since I started working in Open Source, but it took a while to develop a confident stage persona.
Most of my talks these days about "soft topics" such as DevOps, Mental Health, and Community.
I've helped select talks for Community Conferences such as RuhrJS and feel confident in helping you shape your abstract.

I've been working with and in Open Source since before joining the Apache Software Foundation in 2010.

Starting out as a documentation contributor in the Apache HTTPD project, until I moved on to the Traffic Server Project. Here my first project was "porting" the code base to a new compiler (LLVM / Clang). I also migrated the documentation to Read The Docs, and finally I was in the role of a Release Manager for about a year.

In 2014 I co-founded Vox Pupuli, a community of practitioners centered around maintaining Puppet Modules and related tooling.

Over the years I have become quite proficient in the language of Open Source, in navigating different ways of contributing to a project, communicating to its globally distributed members and in integrating both the software, as well as the process in an enterprise environment.
