About the Opportunity
This opportunity is for experienced Software Engineers and Open Source Contributors with demonstrated expertise in Python, Java, Rust, Go, C++, TypeScript, algorithms, and large-scale software development to contribute to advanced AI research and evaluation projects. You'll apply your engineering expertise to build realistic software engineering environments that help evaluate and improve the capabilities of next-generation AI systems.
No prior AI experience is required. Your software engineering experience, open-source contributions, and technical problem-solving abilities are the primary qualifications for success in this role. Professionals with active GitHub or GitLab profiles and a proven track record of code contributions are especially encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
• Develop expert-level code solutions, debugging workflows, and engineering insights across Python, Java, Rust, Go, C++, and TypeScript ecosystems.
• Design and build Reinforcement Learning (RL) environments that evaluate AI systems on real-world software engineering tasks.
• Create challenges involving bug fixing, feature implementation, code refactoring, and performance optimization.
• Develop reproducible engineering environments and golden reference solutions for AI evaluation.
• Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex software defects and performance bottlenecks.
• Refactor and modernize legacy codebases to improve maintainability, scalability, and reliability.
• Document technical reasoning, architecture decisions, and solution approaches to support AI training initiatives.
• Review and validate peer-contributed code and technical content for quality, clarity, and correctness.
Required Qualifications
• Strong proficiency in at least one of the following: Python, Java, Rust, Go, C++, or TypeScript.
• Active GitHub, GitLab, or open-source contribution history demonstrating software engineering expertise.
• Deep understanding of algorithms, data structures, software architecture, and performance optimization.
• Proven experience debugging complex systems and delivering maintainable software solutions.
• Experience implementing features, refactoring codebases, and improving software quality.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working with large-scale distributed systems and production-grade applications.
• Track record of significant contributions to open-source projects.
• Experience modernizing legacy systems and optimizing application performance.
• Strong understanding of software testing, CI/CD workflows, and engineering best practices.
• Experience conducting code reviews and mentoring other engineers.
• Familiarity with AI, machine learning, LLMs, or AI-assisted software development tools.
• Experience designing technical assessments, coding challenges, or engineering evaluation frameworks.
Compensation
• Competitive compensation of $50–$150/hour.
