Legacy ERP Support & Enhancement – Home Installation and Services Company
Overview
We are a well-established fencing and decking company operating on a custom-built ERP
system originally developed over 35 years ago. The core application was built in FoxPro, with
later enhancements developed in Visual FoxPro and MySQL.
The original developer who architected and maintained the system has recently retired. We are
seeking a part-time Senior FoxPro Developer to take over technical support, maintenance,
troubleshooting, and light feature enhancements for this mission-critical system.
This is a long-term, flexible remote opportunity for someone who enjoys working with legacy
systems and can confidently reverse-engineer and maintain mature codebases.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and understand a large, legacy FoxPro / Visual FoxPro codebase
- Troubleshoot and resolve application errors and data issues
- Support daily ERP operations as needed
- Implement small to mid-sized feature enhancements
- Modify or create reports (including running elevated-permission tasks)
- Assist with database integrity and MySQL interactions
- Provide technical guidance on system stability and potential modernization paths
- Document key system components and logic as you learn them
- Collaborate with internal IT staff who handle general support
Required Experience
- 10+ years of hands-on FoxPro and/or Visual FoxPro development experience
- Strong experience working with legacy systems
- Ability to read, interpret, and work within undocumented codebases
- Experience troubleshooting live production systems
- Solid understanding of relational databases
- Experience working with MySQL
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working independently with minimal oversight
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting ERP or business management systems
- Experience migrating or modernizing FoxPro systems
- Understanding of database optimization and performance tuning
- Experience creating or modifying reports in FoxPro environments
- Familiarity with Windows-based business application environments
- Ability to document legacy systems clearly
Engagement Details
- Type: Part-time freelance / contract
- Location: Remote
- Hours: Flexible (estimated 10–20 hours per week depending on needs)
- Duration: 6 months
- Time Zone: Prefer some overlap with North American business hours

You are a senior developer who has worked extensively with FoxPro/Visual FoxPro and understands how to stabilize and support legacy business systems. You are comfortable stepping into an environment without extensive documentation and can methodically understand how things work.
You are pragmatic, responsive, and capable of balancing maintenance work with incremental improvements.
