Co-Founder & Knowledge Engineer

During my MSc in Computer Science I learnt a great deal about the Semantic Web and the underlying technologies. I went on to work for a European stealth FinTech/RegTech startup for whom I have been applying knowledge engineering principles since. I wrote my thesis on the same problem I am tackling at work, for which I received a Distinction.

In another startup of mine based in the US, I have had the opportunity to put my knowledge graph expertise to use on the labelled property graph (LPG) model of graph databases, namely Neo4j, for the specific use case of deduplication and record linkage among millions of datapoints. I have also dealt with exploration of the synergy between the LPG and RDF models, including RDF*/SPARQL* (RDFStar/SPARQLStar) aka Reification Done Right (RDR). I am proud to say we have been among the few to have explored LPG-RDF at scale.

I was an Arch Linux developer for many years and while I was not always diligent in my voluntary and open-source duties and responsibilities, I have been applying my passion wherever I can. I have been maintaining Linux-based systems for as long as I have been working in the technology industry. The experience is mostly userspace, with exposure to lots of debugging in various languages, and a little bit of early userspace and kernel space work.

While purely an academic undertaking in the beginning, and coming from a mostly dynamically-typed and shell-scripting background, I grew to like Java for its pervasiveness and great tool support. I adopted the language for a knowledge-based system that I designed and implemented and presently it is still my primary language of development. While very verbose, it lends well to understanding as well as teaching computer science foundations.

Python has always been my go-to scripting and quick programming language. I have used it as applied technology in the past for social science research, in lieu of tools such as SPSS and before R became a thing. I presently use it sporadically alongside Java.

Part of my higher education was focused on computer networking. I have academic training in networking with TCP/IP and practical training in internetworking, namely the CCNA curriculum. I still apply the skills and knowledge in my present line of work where maintaining networked systems are involved.

I tended to be little more masochistic earlier on in my technology career. I dabbled in electronics and embedded systems for a while, beginning with the Arduino and progressing on to ARM microcontrollers such as the Tiva-C. Most of it is purely hobby and academic in nature, but I know my pointers.
