My first full-time placement our of university, working firstly as a web designer, but moving quickly into a more specific role as an interactive feature designer.

Having hand-written several commercial CMS software and ran companies based around them, it was a change of direction to leverage WP, but this has enabled more focus on the UX, functionality and using WP as a solid base to build robust applications.

In 2009 I took a deep dive into JS and wrote one of the first available cloud-based code editors - called Ecoder - which won a few prizes and featured on hosting one-click installers, such as DreamHost.

I'm happy that JS has come back into fashion and am comfortable writing vanilla or working from frameworks like jQuery.

PHP is my bread + butter, it's where I spend most of my working hours and I have created numerous open-source projects alongside my commercial client work.

Most recently I released a lightweight template engine for WordPress, called Willow - https://github.com/qstudio/willow

I started out working front-end as an interactive designer - flash, JS, ActionScript and of course, CSS + HTML.

ACF is almost as essential as WordPress itself, adding powerful and flexible data connection points, admin views and forms which extend WP into a complete CMS.

This plugin ( ideally the pro version ) is an ever present on all WP projects that I build.

That I know how to develop WordPress plugins is really another way of saying that I understand WordPress and know how to extend it correctly, safely and in a modular and maintainable way - plugins are everything.
