Machine Learning Guy and Backend Engineer

Edmodo is a social learning platform for schools where teachers can connect with their students, organize their classes, share assignments and assess their progress. With over 50 million users, it is used in many classrooms throughout the world. My job was to engineer solutions in order to help teachers and students find the resources they need to improve their teaching and learning experiences. My focus inside the team was on search, personalization, user modeling, recommendations and writing the back-end code to deliver these to the front-end. For this I was working with a wide array of technologies, including Python, Go, Hadoop, Mahout, Sphinx, Thrift, NLTK, elasticsearch, Ruby on Rails, mongodb etc. I also started and coordinated an in-product fundraising campaign for the non-profit organization Room to Read to promote literacy and education throughout the developing world.
