I completed a two-year masters in Machine Learning at the top of my class in 2018, specializing in natural language processing.  I now work as a Senior Machine Learning Engineer for a unicorn tech company.

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, whether is doing data analysis or creating microservices, most of my day-to-day work is done in Python these days.

Back in 2002/2003, I participated in a Web Services contest for college students hosted by Microsoft.  As such, I was among the first people to receive a copy of C#/.NET and the development tools that went along with it.  C# has since been my main programming language in my 12+ year software development career.  I have gained an in-depth understanding of C# and the .NET framework not only through development, but also by following the blogs of people such as Eric Lippert, who design and guide the language and tools and explain why they do the things the way they do them.

At several of my past jobs, I have been the primary person responsible for building, optimizing, and administrating our application databases, and well as developing numerous reports involving very complex SQL queries.  I also worked on a number of database migration projects that involved analyzing, cleaning, and transforming data from a legacy database into a new database schema.  At my last job, I also developed a data warehouse and a SSAS Data Cube to support business intelligence analysis for our organization.

Five years ago I taught myself Scala, as it had language features I was seeking for an experimental API I was working on.  Since then, it has become my favorite programming language, and I use it for most of my personal projects.  Among other things, I've used the scala play framework to develop a website for sharing, searching, and rating ESL lesson planning resources.
