Gained the confidence of the architects and my superiors shortly after joining, and was thus able to implement numerous improvements to the existing system, which resulted in immediate positive results. For example by increasing Unit Test Coverage of legacy code and fixing database bottlenecks decreasing page load time by an order of magnitude.

Having worked at Brightside for only a few months, I was entrusted with the production of assessment tests for the new intake of graduates. 

Successfully launched and ran initiatives to improve the system in the long run, such as a project to update the outdated PHP system.

During my placement year I took an  internship at Accenture. During this time I worked on two projects; QBE  Insurance and the Department of Work and Pensions. 

At QBE I  worked on data migration, ensuring that the migrations had been  performed correctly as well as improving the speed and automation of  these migrations. I also worked briefly on the Cube (data warehouse)  where I learnt how to construct, perform maintenance and deploy the  Cube.

At DWP I was the sole developer for a prototype application  on the iPhone and the iPad. During this time I also developed selenium  web tests to improve the testing of the companion web application that  was also in development. 

Junior Analyst

I have worked extensively with C# and the dotnet languages at work and at home. I have seen the very worst VB6 breaks-the-legacy-editor-beacuse-its-too-long transition into a mordern, slick aspnet application. I have created new systems running dotnet core natively on linux servers for a multimillion pound businesses.

I like to know where my code is running and how I can keep an eye on it, that naturally pulls me into the reams of devops and invariably that means I get involved one way or another. Whether it is purpose built servers or aws magically provisioned VMs I love to get involved. Getting a build pipeline together is one of the best parts of a project, it usually means it is going to succeed!

I first encountered MySQL when administrating a small messaging board and dove into the mysterious world of SQL. I have used quite a few variations since then and strongly believe that relational data and SQL have a place in many applications and websites today 

I like to automate tasks, especially if I am going to be doing them more than once. From build scripts, to cron jobs to one of weird and wonderful scripts I have written them in Powershell and Bash. With the release of Powershell 6 I can write and run Powershell on all OS's which is wonderful news but I still use bash from time to time

Completed my dissertation on validating Xml Schema Documents (XSD) in JavaScript, requiring the implementation of an XSD parser. This was implemented in a language I had almost no experience in, along with a technology I had not worked extensively with. It won second prize in the project competition held at the end of the year. Additionally, I was on the Dean’s list every academic year for my outstanding academic performance.
