Software Developer

I am a data engineer on the Genomic Platform team working on tools and processes to prepare and streamline genomic data in the cloud. Currently, I am building an application that will serve as a centralized platform for our scientists to access massive volumes of different types of genomic data stored by Ancestry.  

In software consulting, I am brought on to solve technical challenges my clients. As a consultant, I work as a software developer to build deliverables while adapting to different technologies, work processes, and development paradigms involved at these client environments. I have been involved in many successful engagements from smaller organizations to Fortune 250 companies. With these companies, I often work on recurring contracts through long-term relationships fostered through a history of professional and impactful contributions.

*Mobile App Development
Lead developer for Novacoast's mobile apps. Built the RESTful API integrating with LDAP, MySQL, SugarCRM, VOIP system, and Twitter. Built the hybrid mobile app with AngularJS, Ionic Framework, and Cordova. Expanded features for existing native iOS and Android app.

Created platform to allow session access for external company partners. Users were catered a customized landing page to provide analytics and data on Novacoast-partner relationships.

Software Developer II

CASSEL is the largest dedicated laboratory for social science experiments and simulations. I handled the day-to-day technical tasks at CASSEL to ensure that researchers' experiments ran smoothly.

Managed three Dell PowerEdge 2970 servers, 72 Windows 7 machines, and the network processes (DNS, DHCP, Apache, and Tomcat services).

Built features for the Joomla site and Tomcat applications used for processing experiment data.

Technical Lead

Designed and built data-intensive applications using mostly Java and Python.  These applications include ETL processes, data delivery, and RESTful API's.  I love architecture and building diagrams!

Worked with many different variants of JavaScript frameworks but am most experienced with Angular.  I have done web development for a few billion-dollar companies.  What differentiates me from other web developers is that I have professional experience with infrastructure and back-end logic.  This enables me to make performant decisions and build applications that are secure.

Professional experience with building, managing, and deploying with devops infrastructure.  I have worked with mainly Linux and  some Microsoft IIS technologies.  I have worked with clients who have done traditional monolith deployments to building CICD pipelines.

Built mobile applications in native Android, native iOS (Swift and Objective C), and hybrid HTML5 apps with Cordova/PhoneGap.  Some of my apps are used internally (enterprise builds) and some are on the iTunes app store.  I can work beyond the mobile app to build other dependencies such as the API, database, and user authentication service.

I have designed databases to balance practical and performant solutions.  I mainly design and integrate with MySQL and Microsoft SQL.  I have used MongoDB and other NoSQL databases in smaller scale projects.

Build a platform with Python that processes data for 20k+ computers daily in order to monitor the business' security compliance.  Built an accomanying API with Flask and a frontend dashboard with AngularJS and ChartJS to provide details and administration tools.

Security Compliance KPI Engine and Dashboard

Built iOS apps integrating with Symantec's security tools with SOAP.  Allows IT administrators to manage their security logs.  The initiative was sponsored by Symantec and released under Novacoast.

Symantec iOS Mobile Security Suite

Redesigned FLIR's iOS app for their professional thermal imaging cameras (similar to GoPro mobile app).  Worked with FLIR hardware engineering team to build out new features integrating with their device's bluetooth interface in new firmware versions.  Handled project management to mirror the development with separate engineer working on Android.

FLIR UAS App

Manage infrastructure and web development for Hager's customer website.  Worked with management to scope out features on the ASP/C# frontend.  Worked with DBA team to build out order-tracking features with C# integrating with an Oracle SQL DB.

Hager Website Enhancements and Feature Development

Built and deployed a C# .NET solution to allow the customer's Symantec Managed Security Services (MSS) security logs to bi-directionally sync with the ticketing system ServiceNow.

Symantec MSS Ticketing Synchronization

Built a smart lighting demo for Samsung at Light + Building trade show in Germany.  Solution used Samsung's yet-unreleased ARTIK 5 Linux board to integrate with FLIR's Lepton thermal image sensor.  Used OpenCV in C++ to process thermal data to compute the percentage of the room that is occupied.  Then used the occupancy data to rotate a servo-powered fan to the source of heat.

IOT Room Occupancy Counter

Built a custom Java driver that allowed the client's ServiceNow ticketing system to trigger propagate changes to their  Identity Management system (NetIQ IDM).  The solution used a Rest Driver as part of a highly customized IDM engine.

ServiceNow + Identity Management Integration

Customized a Perl script to run on the client's VMWare vSphere environment to report security hardening recommendations.  The report was output as a stylized HTML page.

Security Hardening Report Generator

Designed solution to bidirectionally synchronize data between the ticketing system ServiceNow and the client's log analytics software. 

Security Log Sychronization

Provided on-site factory support for FLIR's Lepton thermal imaging sensor.  Responsible for troubleshooting Lepton hardware, calibration software in the assembly line, and liason with FLIR's remote engineering team.

Mobile Phone Software Support for Production

Developer and add WordPress features for the client's website in order to track more user registration information.  Added functionality, hooks, and data presentation such that the client can use a third party's system to track user information.
