Been working with Rails mostly for the last 6 years. I have launched more than 5 different companies/products into the wild.

Mostly in designing the systems and less css/front end but API / intrgration with the systems.

Started off with my first 2 years of development in PHP and I have gone back to it as customer's require

With Laravel being a port of rails its pretty easy to get things done and coming from a rails background things are much much easier.

Mostly just scripting or adhoc editing as required.

Its the thing I have worked in day to day for the last 7 years. Building systems from scratch and learning from my mistakes has made me comfortable and knowledgeable about which gems to use.

With rails often the hardest task is figuring out which library is the best to use for the job. Most of the heavy lifting does have a library so most issues that come up are integration or picking the right tool. Or bugs that popup from using the tool incorrectly.

DevOps isn't a "thing" its just a more operational approach to software development caring about how the code works in production. 

Considering I love to make all my projects run on continuous deployment type systems I guess DevOps is a thing?

My hosting platform of choice for starting out its easy to get running. Relatively cheap and allows you to boot up staging/dev versions of your app instantly knowing with 100% confidence they will be mirror versions.

Also heroku uses 12factor methodology so if your app runs on heroku it will run anywhere and can scale.
