Senior PHP Developer

Along with two partners we started a software development and IT consulting company.
As I worked on this while also working full-time for a Boston, MA company we dealth mostly with small projects.

We employed 3rd party contractors to help with development when we didn't have the time.

Being a very small company meant that I had to deal with the projects starting from the initial contact with the client to the delivery of the finished products. So I've got some experience with project management and leading small teams.

Founder, Project Manager, Lead Developer, Lead Infrastructure Engeneer

* Migrated and then maintained the company infrastructure to AWS
* Performed tasks like patch management, OS upgrades, setting up AWS services like RDS, VPC, EC2, Route53, ELB.
* Had to be on call and available to respond to any incidents 24/7 as we agreed on maintaining 99.9 SLA

Infrastructure Engineer

I started working with the company when it was a small startup with less than 10 employees.

* Responsible for several internal projects along with the main product. 

Some of my responsibilities during my employment were:
- Planning and implementing *incremental* migration of the main legacy application to Symfony 1.x, and then to Symfony3. I had to carefully plan the upgrades as we couldn't have any downtime and the client couldn't wait for the whole migration to be complete. 
- Maintaining AWS infrastructure. I was the only one maintaining it until they expanded their DevOps team. After that, I worked closely with them acting as a support and during incidents.
- Creating an internal tool to safely migrate content to upgraded database schemas.
- Setting up Behat with Selenium as a backend to allow the QA team to write and run automated tests easily.
- Creating a custom CMS backend using Sonata to allow employees (including the Marketing team) to easily edit and configure content, users and different subsystems like SAML2. This included integration with LDAP to authenticate and authorize users, allowing us to fine tune permissions.

Lead PHP Developer

While my main role was Lead PHP Developer, I also helped implement new features and fix bugs using React and Angular. 

Frontend Developer

While I've worked with Symfony for a long time, I also worked with vanilla PHP. That experience allows me to easily get familiar with any framework and fix bugs or add new features without having to wait for the framework maintainers.



Besides starting my own project from scratch, I've worked on upgrading legacy applications (symfony 1.x, wordpress, drupal) to the latest version of the framework.

I've got experience working with the base framework, but I also dealt directly with Symfony Components, getting familiar with their code and extending them to suit our needs.

Most of my experience in this technology comes from working with a startup that initially had less than 10 employees and helped them expand. 
There I was in charge of managing the AWS infrastructure. 

I helped them move from single dedicated server to a multi-az setup, including RDS and several replicas. I also configured a VPC only accesible with OpenVPN and two-factor authentication.

While I'm mainly a backend developer, I also have experience working with a big javascript project. I was responsible of implementing new features using ReactJS and improving the build process.

I'm constantly using git, even for personal projects.
During the years I worked with it some of my responsibilities were:

- Creating, setting up and maintaining new repos locally, on github and on gitlab.
- Helping coworkers to solve problems and conflicts with their local clones.
- Setting up a self-hosted Gitlab instance.

Administration of linux systems hosted on the cloud and on-premises including setting up new environments and managing security patches.


I've got experience manually reviewing code (for instance in Github PRs) to identify potential security vulnerabilities (like SQL Injection, XSS, bad access control, vulnerable dependencies, etc)

I also use automatic scanners and provide reports to the clients if needed for audits.

I worked on setting up several pipelines to help with automated code builds, static code analyzers, and deployments to different environments (dev, staging, production)

Personal research (modifying open source applications, tweaking the linux kernel, etc)

Personal project using WPF to centralize local games management.

Using JSON to serve and consume APIs, data storage and configuration.

Personal projects to research and learn the language. Enough junior experience to create a new project and modify existing ones.

Created small apps from scratch to interact with a backend also written by me. They were apps to be used at conventions to add participants to a raffle.

Worked as a part of a team maintaining a big application that acted as a companion to the main product. It interacted with the backend using a RESTful API and performed security checks like SSL Certificate Pinning.
