SQL started off as that thing to hope someone else does for me. Over the years I stopped hating it and started realizing its power. Now I make very complicated queries that are highly optimized in both lazy orms like sqlalchemy and direct SQL when needed. I am now kind of an evangelist for doing work in SQL instead of in your back end language.

I manaaged Urban Mapping's AWS setup which inclued multiple servers in multiple availability groups in strict access control groups for 2 years. I have worked on Hackerlist AWS related instances since then and have recovered catastrophic server failures by knowing how to handle amazon resources. I have also scripted AWS with boto.
I put 9 because I do not have a lot of experience with IAM chains for permission.

I have been using git since I was in high school and in most companies I have worked, I maintain the git repositories and instruct co workers how to prevent collisions. 

At urban mapping I started with flask as a replacement to django since the django models would not die quietly (and we did not need them at all). I  have become a huge fan of Flask's micro approach to webframeworks.
I have written several backends and the support code for several frontends in flask, even changing out the template engining to jinja and making the sessions use redis. I am very comfortable in Flask.

Postgres is my go to database for anything requiring an ORDBMS. I have written triggers and temporary tables, and queries of insane complexity for postgres in raw ql and ORM systems like sqlalchemy. I am very VERY familiar with this database. I even gave a talk to a small group of engineers on optimizing sql queries.

I rewrote the entire database handling code at Urban mapping to use sqlalchemy instead of the Django models. This was necessary because Django did not provide lazy calls which destroyed performance of our complex requests. Sqlalchemy directly sped up the system by at least 10X, and much more in various pathological cases. 
I use Sqlalchemy as my go to ORM for hackerlist, and all other projects that use python. I even help out new users on IRC from time to time.

I have written and read tons of assembly for my microcontroller projects, as well as for x86 and amd64 processors. It is a required part of optimizing embedded C and reverse eineering software.

When I was younger, I was too poor to get the tools to work on them so instead I just studied them. And once I knew how they worked, I didn't need to build any little blinking box that would not be used immediately after I made it, so I moved on. 
Recently as friends have needed help on arduino projects or ARM boards, I can always help. And the firmware work for reversing the JTAG controllers has got me up close and personal with several exotic microcontrollers.

I started using wireshark when I was interested in maybe getting a CCNA. I stopped and went more of a software and hardware route, but years later I got wireshark back up to sniff USB and ethernet messages of embedded hardware I work on.
I put only 9 because I do not have immediate knowledge on how to filter ip packets (the language is not super obvious) and never replaying ethernet packets in any sort of exploit attempt.

Redis is the perfect tool for several specific problems, and when those problems come around, I am so glad to have it.
At Urban mapping we used redis to cache map tiles, the rendered layers that make up the tiles, the generated style and sql information for a query that would make a layer (both of these took a long time to generate and were used hundreds of times), permissions of users to be able to access certain map resources, etc. Using redis to cache the slow parts of our pipeline sped up the systemfrom painfully slow to no noticable delay when scanning over maps that had any part of them requested by other users.
I also used the redis pubsub to schedule rendering of multiple map tiles across multiple servers to prevent duplicate work and speed up new maps rendering speed
At Hackerlist we use redis for storing sessions but plan for a lot more in the near future.
I do not have direct experience writing redis lua plugins, nor with any sort of distributed redis server instances which is why I mark 9 as my score.

Before I moved out to San Francisco I was taking advantage of a slow period in my life to learn up on lots of stuff. I think I wanted to build a calculator or something, so I looked around and found out about parser generators. I started with Flex/Bison to generate C code and this worked fairly well (after almost 2 weeks of trying to understand the crazy syntax).

A year or so later I had a job at Urban Mapping and was completely rewriting their terribly engineered mapping backend. The software had a sql like language you passed into get parameters that specified named resources and conceptually how those resources should be joined with various pre defined map related functions. The original parser the team before me made was this eldrich horror class inheritance web where to modify anything of the parser you had to touch at least 3 files, and there was no guarantee that it would not break something else since it was almost impossible to fit that much indirection in your head at once. It was the worst code I had ever seen. 
I remembered the various parser generators I had messed with a year before and reimplemented the entire parsing system in ANTLR3. The code was immediately easier to add features to, easier to understand, and easier to debug.
In more recent years I use antlr4 for various projects whenever I need a parser. My github has two projects that use such parsers.

Though my years of direct embedded C are somewhat low, I have had years of C to back it up so all that changed was the lack of an MMU and needing direct hardware access to get what I want.
One of my current projects involves taking various JTAG adapters with secret firmware that has to be loaded on them every time they are plugged in (meaning the secret code has to be distributed to end users in order for them to use the hardware with open source tools), reversing their firmware, and writing my own open source replacement. 
I have done this twice and am in the middle of doing it for several other adapters. 
More recent side projects include work on creating a smart pocket watch which requires a fair amount of embedded C.

In my description of my embedded C experience I mentioned the firmware work I do, Most firmware is in embedded C. I also have experience reverse engineering firmware.
I have not worked with any digital signal processor chips or written firmware that talks over pci express so I rate my skill as 9, but it is higher when limited to embedded firmware.

Back in my freshman year of college I took one of the only classes that changed my life: Digital Logic Systems. (FYI I dropped out because after almost 2 years I had 2 classes I was happy I took)
Knowing digital logic has let me understand computers at such a deeper level, and improved my software skills as well as opening up the ability to make a computer from scratch out of technically anything that can take 2 states. http://xkcd.com/505/
I have used digital logic to build parts of a oricessor and do various tinkering in FPGAs.

My second language was C. 
I started learning it as a Freshman in High school. I had a class interning with the tech team at the 9R school district and at some point we started having very tedious inventory tasks. Inventorying each individual machine (including installing new management software, updating bios information, etc) took about 20 minutes if we were fast. 
This got boring quickly and I wanted to use my programming knowledge to make this easier, but flash actionscript obviously does not run natively on x86. I learned C from MSDN which is possibly the hardest way, but the end result was several tools that sped up our daily tasks. 
One tool brought the inventory of a computer down from 20 minutes to about 1 minute of dedicated attention. I had a special Novell login that would auto run the inventory program. All we had to do was walk down the rows, log in, and type in one or two fields. When the script finished it sent data over a socket to a server that stored the information in an excel sheet.
Ofc looking back on the code I did in high school is a terrifying experience, but I have continued doing C projects whenever the time comes since then, including a gif decompressor, embedded firmware, etc.

I have done various projects in the past in Java, including Android work.Though I do not do a lot of active development in Java in recent years, I am still able to help friends out with structuring code and lots of problems. I understand how the Java memory model works and know how to do JNI to talk to C. My limits come in the form of unfamiliarity with Swing and details of other widget sets.
The 13 year old I mentioned teaching to program in the first part of this application learned Java so he could do minecraft mods. 
I should have put Android as a expertise.

I learned python for my urban mapping job and then worked in it every day for several years. I learned a lot about how to structure programs in python, and write maintainable code other people could read.
When I first started at Urban Mapping, no one was able to add any features to the parser, the renderer, the permission system, etc etc. After a year and a half of restructuring that clusterfuck a new hire made a change his first week without having to have any of the code explained to him. When I asked about his edit he said 'yeah, it was pretty easy, I mean... all the code made sense, and nothing seems to have weird side effects.' This was one of the best compliments I ever got and he did not even know it.

I have written several closed source Android apps and periodically write android code for my OUYA or to control little projects I make from my phone. I understand services, activities and the lifetime of all the android primatives/concepts. I am not good at getting layouts looking good on multiple devices though, I am much better at making the application low power or easy to develop on/debug.
