Software Developer

I've been working as a full time professional rails developer since 2012. I spent several years prior to that self-educating and freelancing as a web developer. I grew up fascinated by computers, and am interested in dabbling with game design. My company primarily works on rails projects with a special emphasis on special information security requirements.

I've been working with website frontend technologies since 2005 ranging from myspace profile customization to wordpress themes to rails applications to SPA apps using angular. I was indoctrinated into some of the ideals of web standards, accessibility, progressive enhancement, graceful degradation, and the the importance of semantics in markup and code. After working on a few projects with Angular 1.x which quickly became difficult to grow and maintain, I became more conscientious about not jumping to new hype technologies too eagerly. I'm very interested in a lot of new developments, particularly CSS grid which I believe I'll be able to start using for my client projects soon, and the parts of the webcomponents standards that are currently usable in modern browsers. I'm eager to leverage broadly supported native platform features with minimal tooling dependencies. I aim to help others find the optimal path to sustainable development in their own projects.

I began learning JavaScript in 2005 and I believe it's important to master as the native programming language of the web platform.

I've been working with startups as a rails developer with Rietta Inc since 2012. Even established businesses frequently engage in new ventures which can be considered "internal startups." Whenever applicable we aim to practice the methodologies and lessons learned by the experts who have studied the patterns of success and failure in the industry. In a general sense, our job number one is to prevent our clients from spending their money if it would be a bad investment. Beyond that, we aim to maximize the value of rapid feedback cycles at all levels of the process and deliver working software as incrementally and rapidly as possible.
