Software Engineer

We were a small, talented team building a knowledge-based social network. I was a full-stack dev working on the backend (Scala on MySQL) and web frontend (AngularJS). We were acquired by Google in July 2016.

Served as a software consultant, doing various odd jobs. My main client was a chemistry lab at Emory University, for whom I performed statistical analysis on chemical compounds in order to assess their toxicities.

Software Consultant

Served as a lead research assistant for the Moore Accuracy Lab within the Haas School of Business. We conducted cognitive psychology research, mainly interested in learning why people are consistently overconfident in their estimations and predictions. You can learn more at learnmoore.org.

Research Assistant

Served as the lead research assistant for the Cognition Lab within the NASA Ames Research Center. We performed cognitive psychology experiments to assess how people assess risk and reward. 

I learned to code in Java, and have been coding in it ever since. I'm very familiar with designing, refactoring, bug fixing, and testing code in Java. I'm very much a fan of adding Functional Programming style to Java as much as possible, to improve the readability, scalability, and correctness of our code.

I worked at Google for the past two years on Android apps, including Google Hangouts and Hangouts Chat. We used open-source frameworks such as Dagger (dependency injection) and Espresso (testing). I'm very familiar with the inner workings of Android, as well as quickly and effectively being able to release apps and features. Recently I've been building apps in Kotlin and have been loving it.

I worked on the backend for Kifi for two years. We built a social content graph using Play Framework with Scala on top of MySQL. Our application was split into continuous deployment microservices with significant messaging, web indexing, and authentication components.
