We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer Solr to work on a project in the fashion industry.

Our client is a leading premium fashion and lifestyle omnichannel retailer, with a long heritage and a strong digital commerce presence alongside its physical stores. The organisation is actively accelerating its digital capabilities to enhance customer experience and retail operations at scale, making technology a core driver of business growth.

We are looking for you to strengthen our client FIND team in the Search domain, where they inspire their customers to easily find the right products. You will become part of a small, remote team where everyone is committed to finding the right balance between developing new, innovative products and further developing existing ones. You will work on the core product of the webshop, the search function, and support the team in conceptualizing and implementing its future-oriented direction. You are familiar with current developments in search technologies and are able to implement them hands-on after aligning them with business and customer needs. We place great emphasis on end-to-end responsibility and strive to develop our products in a technically sustainable way.

What you will do:

• Together with your experienced colleagues, you will design, plan and develop customer-centric and value-creating new features for the Search Engine product area of our client e-commerce & multichannel platform.
• Within an agile environment, you and your team will take responsibility for the entire development process, from architectural design and continuous deployments to maintenance, coordinating with neighboring teams along the way.
• You actively take ownership of your code, drive technical decisions in coordination with stakeholders, and choose appropriate testing, quality, and performance standards.
• You actively take ownership of your services and infrastructure, drive technical decisions in coordination with technical stakeholders such as platform teams, and define quality and performance standards depending on the development stage of the product (e.g., PoC, MVP, scalable product).
• With your experience, you estimate and evaluate the effort required for complex features, taking into account technical requirements and business impact – always keeping the balance between technical excellence and economic added value in mind.
• You proactively participate in building knowledge about search technologies within the team and generally support team members in their technical development.

What you will bring:

• You have extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of developing high-performance, flexible search solutions in agile environments using Apache Solr, Querqy, and related technologies. Alternatively, you have relevant experience with a comparable technology (e.g., Elasticsearch, Opensearch) and are eager to learn our Solr-based stack.
• You have already gained experience in implementing vector-based search systems in this field and are proficient in using language models to interpret search queries. Hybrid search approaches are also part of your repertoire.
• You have very good knowledge of at least one object-oriented or functional programming language – preferably Java or Kotlin – or you are keen to learn our predominantly JVM-based tech stack.
• You have experience working with modern web frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot, Rails, Laravel)
• You already have experience with MongoDB and/or other NoSQL databases, AWS and Docker container technologies, and you also enjoy infrastructure work.
• Your excellent communication and problem-solving skills make you a valuable team player, and you enjoy mentoring or coaching your teammates.
• You are curious about new technologies, like to venture into unfamiliar territory, and quickly familiarize yourself with new topics.
