Senior Software Engineer (Rust)

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to work on a project in the public sector / GovTech industry.

The project:

You will be part of a distributed team building a greenfield Elections Management System for our client, a leading provider of software and services to public sector organisations. The system replaces a legacy electoral register and election management platform, covering everything from elector registration and absent voting to election configuration and compliance reporting. The stack is Rust on the backend and React (Firefly) on the frontend. You will work in an AI-native delivery environment using Claude Code.

We are looking for someone with strong Rust engineering skills, good communication, a proactive mindset, comfortable building systems from scratch, and with a high attention to detail — particularly around security and data integrity.

What you will do:

• Deliver production-quality Rust backend code across the six functional domains of the Elections Management System (Platform, Electors, Documents, Elections, Absent Votes, Reporting).
• Work within an AI-assisted delivery workflow using Claude Code contributing to and evolving the framework as the project progresses.
• Participate in sprint ceremonies, backlog refinement, and code reviews.
• Contribute to establishing engineering patterns, CI/CD foundations, and documentation practices from the earliest sprints.
• Support knowledge transfer to our client engineers throughout the engagement.

What you will bring:

• 10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 4 years developing with Rust.
• Experience building backend systems in Rust, including ownership of core domain models and API design.
• Familiarity with full-stack delivery, ideally with some exposure to React or similar frontend frameworks.
• Experience in spec driven development.
• Experience with CI/CD pipeline setup and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Experience working in agile, sprint-based teams with a strong sense of delivery ownership.
• A security-conscious approach to engineering, particularly relevant for systems handling sensitive citizen data.

Nice to have:

• Experience working with electoral, government, or other regulated domain systems.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Copilot, or similar.
