An exciting opportunity is open for a Data Scientist to join a high-performing team driving innovation in the renewable energy space. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on building optimization models from scratch, translating complex research into actionable insights, and helping shape investment strategies across North American energy markets.
Requirements:
- Lead analytical projects and model development with minimal supervision.
- Build models from the ground up using R and Python, focusing on transparency, simplicity, and automation.
- Analyze market structures and design solar + storage strategies across CAISO, PJM, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, ISO-NE, NYISO, Alberta, Ontario, and more.
- Read academic research and develop innovative algorithms that create new revenue opportunities.
- Support internal teams with data science and simulation requests.
- Communicate insights and risks to senior leadership.
- Work in a collaborative, dynamic team environment.
Responsibilities:
- Background in Engineering, Math, Physics, Economics, or related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
- 5-8 years’ experience in renewables and/or energy storage.
- Strong skills in optimization (linear/non-linear, dynamic programming, heuristic search).
- Hands-on experience with R, Python, SQL (extra points for C, Java, JavaScript).
- Knowledge of cloud tools (AWS is a plus).
- Deep understanding of North American electricity markets.
This role is based in the US and can be worked remotely but with a preference for their office in San Diego. Compensation offered is in the region of $125,000-$175,000 with additional bonus compensation dependent on company performance.
