Job Description
WSP is seeking a Senior Civil Design Engineer to join the Water Infrastructure and Design Division within the Mine Engineering Business Unit. This person will be responsible for the design, drawing and construction monitoring of infrastructure projects.
The duties and responsibilities are to include the design, drawing and construction monitoring of infrastructure projects which includes but may not be limited to:
- Pipelines and ancillaries design (e.g. scour, air valve, pipe supports etc.)
- Pump station design (e.g. pump sizing, suction, discharge pipework configuration etc.)
- Pipeline hydraulic modelling (e.g. pipeline sizing, water hammer, ensuring compliance with relevant design codes etc.)
- Open Chanel Flow hydraulics
- Storm Water Designs
- Earthworks modelling in Civil 3D (e.g. stormwater drainage, platform and road layouts)
- Undertake planning, engineering design work with input to construction as required and as directed by Project Leaders or Engineers
- Prepare cost estimates
- Ensure all designs and drawings are properly documented and checked
- Construction administration skills would be advantageous
- Attend site and other meetings, to action times timeously and effectively
- Achieve minimum financial productivity on all projects
- Ensure effective systems are implemented for good record keeping – files, reports, drawings, construction date etc.
- Liaise with other staff working on projects at all levels
- Assist with contract administration including preparation of certificates and “as built” drawings, construction dates etc.
- Ensure suitability of technical proposals
- Compile letters, reports and prepare tender documentation
- Provide service excellence
- Compliance with Quality Management System
- Contribution to efficiency and effectiveness of sector
- The candidate must be able to undertake and review associated works designs and demonstrate a sound technical knowledge of contract and construction procedures. (The candidate must demonstrate highly specialized design)
- The position is head office based, however the successful candidate must be prepared and free to travel extensively both within South Africa and within the African Continent to manage projects and engage in client and other meetings.

Qualifications
- BEng/BSc/BTech – Civil/Mechanical Engineer Degree
- Minimum 8-10 – years’ experience minimum
- Professionally Registered will be an advantage
- Civil 3D and AutoCAD would be advantageous
- At least 6 years’ experience with pipeline, pump station and storm water design within the consulting environment.
- Project and engineering management experience with relevant qualifications would be advantageous.
- KY-Pipe, EPANET, PC SWWM, HEC RAS, or Bentley simulation software will be an advantage
- MS Word, MS Excel (Advanced), MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, MS Projects
