• Title: Senior Staff Software Engineer – React Native (Performance & Quality)
• Location: San Francisco Bay Area (likely remote-eligible within the U.S.)
• Salary Range: $304,000 – $342,000 (base) + equity + benefits
• Seniority: Very high-level (above regular Staff level)
• Team: Client Platform & Performance
• Focus: Mobile performance, scalability, React Native internals, cross-platform consistency

🛠️ Key Responsibilities

• Drive Technical Strategy: Define and execute performance strategies across Discord’s client platforms, with a focus on mobile (React Native).
• Architect Core Systems: Build foundational libraries across the stack for performance and scalability.
• Own Performance Quality: Set and enforce quality benchmarks and systems for long-term app health.
• Mentorship: Guide and grow future technical leaders within Discord.

✅ Required Experience & Skills

• 10+ years in large-scale, cross-platform software development.
• Expert-level React Native experience with deep understanding of mobile performance.
• Strong with JavaScript/TypeScript, ideally with C++ or other low-level performance experience.
• Proven performance profiling/debugging experience.
• Effective communicator and consensus-builder across teams.

💎 Bonus Qualifications

• Contributor to React/React Native open source, or a conference speaker.
• Optimized apps for international markets and low-bandwidth environments.
• Familiarity with performance tools (Flipper, Hermes, Systrace, etc.).
• Background in gaming or adjacent tech (e.g. Unity, Unreal, GPU work).
