About the Role

We are seeking a Freelance Performance Marketing Designer to join our Creative Team to help tell our brand story in paid social and video content. Our ideal candidate is an expert in performance marketing with strong motion design skills. This role will collaborate with our Marketing team and Copy team on concept development and will lead storyboarding and animating/editing. We are looking for someone who is organized, proactive, and able to think and execute strategically. This Freelance Performance Marketing Designer should be curious and willing to challenge the status quo to make great design work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design performance marketing assets from storyboard to final animation.
  • Collaborate with other Design team members on 360 campaign development and own paid social, organic social, and other video/motion assets.
  • Ensure consistency in our paid and organic social assets, adhering to established visual style guides and brand guidelines.
  • Work closely with Marketing, Product, and Strategy team stakeholders to understand their business needs and develop them into successful design work.
  • Establish ways of working using automation and AI for streamlined workflows and versioning.

The experience you have

  • 6+ years of experience at an agency or design-centric consumer brand, ideally with a QSR or fast casual restaurant brand experience.
  • Hands-on experience designing and animating motion assets specifically for paid social/performance marketing.
  • Understanding of hooks, thumb-stopping moments and pacing in the first 1-3 seconds.
  • Ability to design for clear CTAs and conversion goals (clicks, app downloads, promo redemptions, etc.)
  • Familiarity with iterative testing (A/B variations, versioning, and quick turnarounds).
  • Comfort optimizing creative based on performance insights and proposing improvements based on reporting data.
  • Experience with Meta, TikTok, and YouTube shorts.
  • Knowledge of platform nuances (safe zones, captions, UI overlays, sound on vs sound off behavior).
  • Strong foundation in motion principles (timing, hierarchy, transitions).
  • Skilled in Adobe After Effects, InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Experience designing in Figma.
  • Familiarity designing templates for Canva.
  • Strong layout and typography skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail with naming conventions, versioning, and QCing.
  • Able to work in a fast-moving startup environment. Able to perform gracefully under pressure and produce exceptional work.
  • Comfortable with taking initiative and working independently.
  • Ability to receive and implement constructive feedback in design work.
  • A team player who can prioritize projects and manage time to achieve a balance of creativity and quality.
  • Ability to clearly present design rationale and approach.
