Senior Game Economy Designer
Wolcen Studio is seeking a remote Senior Game Designer with experience in in-game economy and monetisation to join its Game Design team working on an unannounced project in Unreal Engine 5. If you are always trying to think one step ahead, champion the delivery of game value to the customer, encourage players to keep coming back and engage with the core game loop, and employing methodologies of economics, sociology, and business intelligence is your second nature you might be the economy designer we have been looking for to join our team!
The role will focus on creating a healthy game economy will be tightly integrated with systems for player customization, game progression, reward structures, and overall gameplay balance.
Your day-to-day
- Design and balance game economy features that further the strategic vision of the product to improve retention, engagement, and monetization.
- Model, build, and tune free and paid content to ensure the game remains attractive and engaging for players.
- Build the post-launch economy, including the incorporation of limited-time events, reward structures, purchases, and adjustments to support new features throughout the product life cycle.
- Work closely with game designers to ensure the game economy design integrates into the gaming experience.
- Collaborate with video game developers (game programmers, UI) to implement and resolve issues related to the game's economy.
- Write reports and technical documents to share data analysis results and ideas with game development teams, publishers, and investors.
- Keep up to date with market trends and do a proactive analysis of economy tuning in relevant competitive products.
- Explore all streams of media and life to better player experience according to the goals and vision for our project.
- Regularly seek and provide feedback from the wider team.
We would like you to bring to the team
- 4+ years designing economies in digital games (PC or Mobile); 1+ years optimizing live service games.
- An avid gamer with a strong understanding of the economy in free-to-play online multiplayer games.
- The ability to model problems into quantitative systems, anticipate downstream effects, and identify important relationships and levers that influence the outputs.
- Detail-oriented and capable of providing specific solutions at each step of the process.
- Expertise with spreadsheets (can maintain complex spreadsheets) and in manipulating and summarizing large datasets.
- The ability to understand and consider player preferences and behaviors.
- The ability to meet deadlines and work independently, sharing updates regularly.
- Strong communication and presentation skills (oral and written).
- Knowledge of microeconomics and pricing theory.
- An understanding of client/server architecture and data collection pipeline.
- Experience working on a multiplayer game or an RPG and a love of the systems underpinning this genre is a plus.
