About The Role

We are seeking a talented and motivated Software Engineer specializing in full-stack development to join our People Innovation Labs team. This team is embedded within the People organization and focuses on creating innovative products to enhance talent acquisition, employee engagement, and organizational culture through AI-powered solutions. As a key member of this team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying new products that improve how OpenAI attracts, retains, and develops its talent. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including HR, recruiting, research, product management, and design, to build scalable, user-centric systems from the ground up. Additionally, you will explore the application of large language models (LLMs) to optimize HR and culture-related processes, helping to define the future of work at OpenAI.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional engineering experience in relevant roles at tech or product-driven companies
• Proficiency in JavaScript, React, and modern web technologies
• Strong experience with backend programming languages, preferably Python
• Familiarity with relational databases such as Postgres or MySQL
• Interest or experience in AI/ML concepts and applications
• Experience working in fast-paced environments with loosely defined tasks and competing priorities
• Background as a founder or early engineer at a startup is a plus
• Passion for building company culture and recruiting innovative talent
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to understand business strategies and translate them into technical solutions

Responsibilities

• Own the full lifecycle of product development for new people-centric tools, from ideation to deployment
• Engage with internal stakeholders to gather requirements and understand their challenges
• Design and implement scalable, maintainable software solutions for HR, culture, and recruiting domains
• Collaborate with research teams to incorporate the latest AI models and share relevant feedback for iterative improvements
• Work closely with cross-functional teams including engineers, HR Business Partners, recruiters, researchers, product managers, designers, and operations staff
• Apply best practices in software development, testing, and deployment to ensure high-quality products
• Innovate on how AI, particularly large language models, can be leveraged to improve talent management and organizational culture
• Continuously learn and adapt to emerging technologies and industry trends to keep products at the forefront of innovation
