About The Role

Square's Web UI team is seeking a Staff Frontend Software Engineer to help build a new component library that supports Square’s Dashboard—used by millions of sellers. You will play a critical role in shaping UI foundations, design systems, and accessibility standards. This is a unique opportunity to influence how 200+ engineers build high-quality, accessible, and consistent user experiences at scale.

This position is remote-friendly and can be based anywhere in the U.S. or Canada.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of a second-level component library built on top of Square's Market design system
• Build scalable, accessible, and reusable UI components with React
• Partner with cross-functional design system teams to ensure inclusive and accessible experiences (WCAG-compliant)
• Collaborate on Square’s Dashboard web application, a key surface for millions of users
• Champion best practices in frontend architecture and design across teams
• Evaluate and implement modern frontend tooling and AI-assisted development solutions
• Participate in technical design reviews and strategic architecture discussions
• Mentor and guide engineers across the organization

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on experience with React and building/maintaining large-scale frontend systems
• Proven experience working with design systems and component libraries
• Strong knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG) and implementation practices
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex, long-term projects with cross-functional stakeholders
• Experience managing ReactJS applications with high contributor activity
• Passion for developer experience and tooling innovation
• Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring skills

Compensation

• Base Pay Range: $263,600 – $395,400 USD (varies by location)
• Total compensation may include performance-based bonuses and equity grants
