About The Role
We are seeking a talented and creative front-end developer to join our dynamic team. In this full-time, remote position, you will be responsible for designing and implementing elegant, user-centric interfaces that enhance the reading experience across all platforms and devices. Your role will involve collaborating closely with cross-functional teams—including art directors, digital directors, and back-end developers—to develop new features, optimize existing products, and ensure seamless integration with third-party systems related to advertising and marketing. You will play a key role in driving innovation by proposing improvements such as new interactive storytelling formats and editorial tools, all while maintaining a pixel-perfect attention to detail. The position requires occasional in-person meetings in New York City throughout the year.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience utilizing React and JavaScript
- 3+ years of front-end development experience
- Media industry experience preferred
- Proven experience creating and optimizing mobile web applications
- Strong understanding of SEO best practices
- Experience improving performance metrics and Core Web Vitals
- Familiarity with web analytics and diagnostic tools (e.g., GTM, GA4)
- Excellent communication skills to explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced editorial environment
- Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously, both short-term and long-term
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with art, digital, and back-end teams to develop new products and enhance existing ones, prioritizing multiple feature requests and bug fixes
- Implement design guidelines that are ADA and WCAG compliant to ensure accessibility and consistent user experiences across all platforms
- Develop and maintain high-quality CSS, including modern SCSS with nesting and component-based approaches
- Work with editorial and business teams to translate broad feature objectives into well-defined, production-ready technical solutions for mobile, tablet, and desktop
- Partner with stakeholders to implement front-end privacy controls and consent mechanisms aligned with jurisdiction-specific requirements
- Define product goals, map user flows, prototype interactions, and oversee the development process
- Create and refine prototypes to ensure quality and usability
- Collaborate with lead developers on architecture, implementation, and maintaining high code quality
- Write clean, performant, and maintainable code in collaboration with the digital and back-end teams
- Stay informed on industry best practices and trends to inform future projects aimed at growing the audience
- Maintain regular communication with the product manager regarding project status, needs, and milestones
- Implement and manage analytics and tagging integrations, including GTM and GA4
- Participate in daily code reviews and document technical builds, fixes, and debugging activities
