About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to join the IRS’s Analytics Application Platform (AAP), a central Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) designed for secure and scalable AI/ML development across federal programs. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing advanced AI/ML solutions, serving as a technical enabler for onboarding customer teams onto the platform, and supporting early use case development. You will play a pivotal role in demonstrating platform capabilities, guiding clients through onboarding processes, and ensuring successful adoption of AI/ML workflows. This position offers the opportunity to work remotely within the United States and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support innovative federal initiatives. Although the primary focus is on IRS use cases, the role has the potential to extend support to other federal, state, and commercial programs through SAIC’s Digital Innovation Factory (DIF). The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in cloud-native ML tooling, model development, and customer-facing platform enablement, with a focus on security, compliance, and ethical AI practices.

Responsibilities
- Deliver onboarding demonstrations and hands-on walkthroughs for customer data science teams, showcasing platform capabilities and best practices for leveraging Databricks, JupyterHub, and AWS SageMaker/Bedrock.
- Guide customer teams through initial onboarding milestones, including access setup, cluster provisioning, pipeline utilization, model experimentation, and promotion workflows.
- Act as a technical point-of-contact during onboarding, translating platform services into tangible value for specific use cases.
- Develop secure, reproducible data science pipelines involving data wrangling, feature engineering, and model development using Databricks and AWS-native tools.
- Utilize MLflow for model versioning, experiment tracking, and lifecycle governance to ensure transparency and reproducibility.
- Integrate AI/ML workflows with CI/CD pipelines (Bitbucket, Bamboo) and infrastructure services such as S3, Lambda, and RDS.
- Maintain compliance with security standards and best practices, ensuring transparency, traceability, and data privacy.
- Implement Responsible AI Toolboxes and support ethical governance of ML and LLM models.
- Collaborate with cross-functional platform teams, including Infrastructure, Trustworthy AI, and Customer Support, to facilitate onboarding and operationalization of AI/ML workloads.
- Develop comprehensive documentation and guidance materials to enable repeatability and accelerate customer success.
