About The Role

We are seeking a Mid-level Backend Software Engineer to join our passionate web team. You will design and build backend features for large public-facing web applications, working closely with product, marketing, and design teams. This is an individual contributor role with autonomy over your work, reporting to the Director of Backend Engineering. While remote candidates are considered, preference is given to those near NYC for occasional in-person collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Partner with product, marketing, business intelligence, and design teams to develop new product features
• Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable Python code
• Influence and contribute to backend architecture decisions
• Translate customer feedback into impactful features and tools
• Collaborate with frontend engineers to deliver a cohesive user experience
• Mentor and collaborate with fellow engineers
• Manage projects to meet deadlines and adhere to engineering processes
• Incrementally roll out features while maintaining live products

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional experience building large-scale public-facing web applications
• Advanced proficiency in Python and Django
• Strong experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.)
• Experience developing RESTful APIs
• Strong unit testing and debugging skills
• Experience with Elasticsearch is a plus
• Familiarity with JavaScript/React is a plus
• Excellent communication skills, able to convey ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Comfortable working in an Agile environment across the full development lifecycle
• Collaborative, adaptable, and proactive in a fast-paced setting
