Front-End Web Designer (Hybrid)
Starting Salary Range: $72,946-$85,000
The State Corporation Commission (SCC) seeks a Front-End Web Designer who has a passion for public service to join the Information Resources Division (IRD). Located in downtown Richmond, the SCC is an independent state agency that balances the interests of citizens, businesses, and customers in regulating Virginia’s business and economic concerns. The Front-End Web Designer maintains the SCC’s website to support and expand the public’s understanding of the mission and work of the Commission. This position operates on a hybrid work schedule, including 3 days in office and 2 days of teleworking each week. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee, coordinate, and maintain the SCC’s website
- Review the design and functionality of the SCC website and recommend improvements and upgrades
- Provide administration and direction for the content management system (CMS) and associated vendors (Terminalfour and SiteImprove)
- Optimize website for search engines to improve visibility and attract more visitors
- Analyze website performance metrics to identify areas for improvement
- Format, update, and post online content and intranet (SharePoint) content in coordination with Commission staff
- Monitor and audit the SCC’s website and intranet for full compliance with applicable accessibility standards including the Virginians with Disabilities Act, Code of Virginia Information Technology Access Act, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
- Respond to user feedback sent to the SCC webmaster email account
- Perform related work as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Eight (8) years of professional experience working in web development, website design, site administration, or a related field (or the equivalent combination of related experience, education, and training)
- Extensive experience in user experience (UX) design
- Experience working with a content management system (CMS), with a preference for experience with Terminalfour (T4) platform
- Experience working for a state or other public agency is a plus
- Understanding of accessibility standards such as Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and their application
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and front-end development tools
- Experience working with Figma, AdobeXD, or similar UX-related tools
- Thorough understanding and experience with the principles of search-engine optimization (SEO) and general engine optimization (GEO)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe products
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Excellent judgement and decision-making skills with ability to work independently
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Commission staff, industry personnel, and the general public
