Title: Sr. Software Engineer
Reports To: Director of Core Engineering
Location: Remote (US Only)
About Us
We've built the system of record for the $200+ billion insurance brokerage and agency market - an industry that forms the backbone of our modern economy. We serve a solid roster of customers including industry leaders like USAA and many others. WR Berkley, a Fortune 500 insurance holding company, led our Series B and provides invaluable strategic partnership as we reshape the insurance technology landscape.
About the Role
We're at an inflection point: leveraging our strong customer relationships, industry expertise, and advances in AI, we have a unique opportunity to reimagine what an agency management system should be. Rather than refactoring our existing codebase, we're building an entirely new set of products and infrastructure from the ground up. This greenfield project will involve lifting and shifting our current system to a new, scalable, cloud-native architecture that harnesses the power of AI. This is a rare chance to drive massive transformation in a critical industry while working at a financially stable company with proven market fit.
We’re looking for a Sr. Software Engineer who’s passionate about building products users love, solving complex problems, and excited by the opportunity to work on a modern AI-powered platform from the ground up. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and product leaders to shape a product suite that thousands of insurance agents will rely on every day.
Problems You’ll Help Solve
- Modernize data collection: Insurance agents and customers waste hours manually digging through documents and answering long forms to get quotes—despite much of this data already existing in public records or documents. You’ll help build intelligent systems that leverage AI to automatically extract and organize this data, turning a tedious process into a delightful one.
- Streamline a fragmented quoting workflow: Today, agents manually reformat and resubmit the same data to multiple insurance carriers, each with their own formats and submission channels. You’ll help build a system that intelligently adapts and routes quote data to multiple carriers automatically—whether via portals, PDFs, or APIs.
- Transform legacy data into actionable insights: Insurance carriers still use 1970s-era file formats (like AL3) to send critical policy updates. You’ll help design systems that can parse these legacy formats and evolve them into modern, real-time data pipelines—bringing intelligence and visibility to previously opaque data.
You Will
- Contribute directly to the design and implementation of core platform features—from backend systems and APIs to integrations with external data sources.
- Collaborate closely with our CEO, design team, and early customers to ship high-impact features quickly and iteratively.
- Work under the guidance of senior engineers to write clean, maintainable code and help define technical standards as we scale.
- Take ownership of features end-to-end—from technical design through development, testing, deployment, and iteration.
You Have
- 5+ years of experience building production-grade backend systems, preferably with exposure to distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, or data pipelines.
- Strong fundamentals in software design, databases, APIs, and modern backend languages and frameworks.
- A willingness to work across the stack and dive into new technologies or unfamiliar areas as needed.
- A collaborative mindset, eagerness to learn, and comfort working in a fast-paced, startup environment.
What Excites You
- You love building things from the ground up: You want to have an outsized impact on architecture, performance, and product direction—not just maintain legacy systems.
- You want to shape how AI is used in a meaningful industry: Insurance is ripe for disruption, and you’re excited to apply AI in ways that genuinely improve people’s work.
- You enjoy collaborating with small teams: You thrive in environments where your work is visible and appreciated, and where you can grow quickly by working alongside experienced engineers and customers.
What We Offer
- Remote-first environment and ability to work anywhere in the US within 3 hours of EST
- A whole person approach to taking care of you with medical, vision, dental, disability, and life benefits
- 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching and safe harbor vesting
- Meaningful work-life balance with an UPTO policy and 13 paid company holidays
- Annual wellness stipend to support your health goals
- Paid maternity and parental leave policies
The base salary range for this position is $175,000 – $220,000 annually. The actual base pay offered may vary depending on factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.
