Engineering Project Manager, Renewable Energy
Location – Remote US
Position Summary
The Engineering Project Manager is a newly created opportunity within a prominent fast-growing renewable energy developer, project owner, and investment company. This full-time opportunity will join a nationally recognized team and be responsible for working with multiple internal project teams to manage large scale, complex solar and battery storage projects serving as the technical lead and primary point of contact for design and execution through execution phase. The Engineering Project Manager opportunity will offer a competitive compensation package comprised of a base salary in the $160,000 to $180,000 range, plus a 25% annual bonus target, excellent benefits, and strong career mobility potential within the company’s rapidly scaled growth track. This position will offer a fully remote work schedule however candidates must be able to travel (up to 25%) domestically as needed. Ideal candidates will have 5 plus years of related experience within renewable energy project engineering.
Job Description
- Collaborates closely with internal departments such as Project Management, Interconnection, Project Development, and Asset Management.
- Serve as the primary technical resource to company’s Owner representatives.
- Fulfill technical Owner obligations to EPC contractors, O&M contractors, asset managers, energy managers, off takers, interconnection providers, and other counterparties.
- Manage internal and external resources to review designs, performance estimates, cost estimates, schedules, and other technical deliverables from contractors.
- Develop and document processes and procedures for company’s engineering work on projects.
- Support technical reviews of EPC, O&M, energy manager, and procurement RFPs, and perform associated cost/benefit analyses.
- Participate in supplier validation efforts, including technical specifications, bid evaluations and vendor submittal reviews.
- Assist commercial and legal teams with negotiation of EPC, equipment purchase, O&M, lease, and asset management contracts.
- Manage relationships with equipment vendors, contractors, and third-party engineering firms, especially third-party owners’ engineering firms.
- Lead value engineering efforts with contractors.
- Identify potential risks related to engineering and construction and develop mitigation strategies.
- Support quality assurance and quality control oversight of contractors.
- Support project commissioning activities to ensure projects meet requirements.
- Prepare project update reports and presentations.
- Collaborate with project development and preconstruction, implementing lessons learned and best practices for future projects.
- Assist construction-period closeout of key project contracts.
- Represent the Owner’s technical interests in both onsite and offsite project meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversee the management of all technical documentation, ensuring it is up-to-date and accessible.
- Provide technical input and review of project finance modeling.
- Support business development activities.
- Stay abreast of industry advancements and relevant codes.
- Support company continuous improvement activities.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering-related discipline, preferably Electrical-Power or Civil Engineering.
- 5+ years of industry experience in project engineering, project development engineering, or owner’s engineering.
- Experience with utility-scale solar and energy storage projects.
- Proficiency in SCADA and I&C systems for utility-scale solar and energy storage projects.
- Working knowledge of energy industry and project finance fundamentals
- Willingness to travel up to 20%.
- Master’s degree in engineering-related discipline and/or Professional Engineer licensure preferred
- Experience with project management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, and Box preferred.
- ERCOT market project experience preferred.
