Senior Data Scientist – Commercial Insurance (Remote or Hybrid)
A fast-growing, tech-forward commercial insurance company is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join its lean, high-impact team. This organization offers a simplified insurance product tailored for small businesses—covering everything from property risks and liability to more specialized exposures across various industries, such as hospitality, skilled trades, and professional services.

Key Responsibilities
Reporting directly to executive leadership, you will be tasked with developing and maintaining the company’s data science infrastructure, shaping key strategic decisions across the business.
- Develop statistical models and conduct research to support actuarial, claims, marketing, sales, engineering, and operational strategies.
- Analyze portfolio performance and competitiveness across customer segments.
- Build models for customer retention, lifetime value, lead scoring, and marketing effectiveness.
- Enhance rating and reserving techniques by integrating new data sources.
- Deploy your work into production workflows that serve multiple departments.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure models reflect real-world domain expertise.
- Communicate analytical results in a clear, business-friendly manner to support data-driven decision-making.
- Ensure all code and analysis is reproducible, well-documented, and meets high standards of rigor and transparency.
- Apply robust statistical principles in sparse-data environments and clearly convey uncertainty in model outcomes.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of applied experience in data science, statistical modeling, or related analytical fields; experience in insurance or actuarial domains is strongly preferred.
- Deep understanding of statistical modeling, particularly Bayesian inference and simulation techniques.
- Proficiency in Python (or R) and SQL, and experience with libraries like PyMC or Stan.
- Familiarity with modern AI tools and awareness of the governance required to apply them responsibly.
- Strong organizational skills and a detail-oriented, methodical approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to partner with cross-disciplinary teams.
