As the dedicated designer for this product, you will work with the product manager and software engineers to rethink the approach to delivering map based services on mobile devices transforming to a new model that supports broad user needs and unique curated services. You will be responsible to help shape problem framing, research, product strategy, service design and experience architecture as well as UX/UI design. The refreshed product will be AI-forward, so understanding of delivering AI driven products is key.
Skills required for this role:
We need designers who can own the end-to-end design process for a core enterprise product, from discovery and problem framing through concept development, validation, and delivery:
- Problem framing and product strategy: Work with product manager and engineering lead to define product strategy and ensure we are solving the right problems
- Research and testing: Apply user research and testing expertise (qual and quant) to ensure digital platforms best meet the needs of all users and stakeholders,
- Systems thinking: Contribute a systems thinking and design thinking mindset to the teams and products you work with
- Outcome focus: Work closely with product managers to own outcomes continuously improving the products feedback and iteration
- UX/UI design: Translate complex user, business and regulatory requirements into smart, engaging, modern flows and elegant interfaces
- Design quality: Work to consistently improve the user experience and quality of all the products you work on, helping to uplift the quality of design across government in line with

- Digital and data savvy: Work with our engineering and data leads make smart decisions that get the most out of technology and data and work through constraints
- Stakeholder management: Work closely with product managers to deliver on business outcomes and help facilitate through inevitable conflicts and constraints, acting as an advocate for humans in the system
- Design with and for AI: We expect designers to be familiar with AI tools both as aids to their work process and as a key element of the products they design
Requirements we are looking for:
- Degree and/or proven, relevant experience in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, graphic design, design research or a related field
- End-to-end capability: Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, but we are looking for T-shaped designers who welcome end-to-end work
- Proficiency in discovery and problem framing skills (design thinking, service design, etc)
- Proficiency in UX/UI design tools (e.g. Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, Miro)
- Self-starter who can work independently for example to define and execute a research plan, define and implement a design system, prototype and test a solution
- Willingness to work in-office and build trust as a collaborative team player.
- Strong stakeholder management skills appropriate to your level
- Good communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to present findings and design rationale clearly and persuasively to all stakeholders
- Comfort with ambiguity and complexity in enterprise or regulated environments and ability to frame ambiguity into clear, actionable design
- Comfort with incomplete information, legacy systems and cross functional constraints
- Self-directed, reflective, and open to feedback, with interest in contributing to the public good through digital services
