AI Engineer

Role Description:UP.Labs is seeking an experienced AI Engineer to join a new AI-driven aviation startup within our portfolio redefining airline revenue management and pricing. They are leveraging simulation, AI agents, recommendation engines, and continuous testing to unlock hundreds of millions in incremental airline revenue. As the first AI Engineer, you will be responsible for building, deploying, and scaling intelligent systems that set new standards for AI applications in travel.
You’ll work alongside a Domain Lead, Data Engineer, and Data Scientist in a lean, highly skilled team. Together, you’ll turn prototypes into production-ready AI workflows and help shape the technical foundation of the platform. You’ll also have access to the UP.Partners ecosystem — an expansive team across product, engineering, design, analytics, marketing, legal, talent, finance, and venture capital available to help advise & scale the portfolio organization quickly.
In this role you will:

• Immediately step into a business built for success - leverage the UP.Ecosystem for advisory and connections, collaborate with a highly qualified CEO and corporate partner deeply invested in the success of this org., and build from an already-established product market fit.
• Design, build, and deploy AI agents, agentic workflows that simulate demand, optimize pricing strategies, and continuously learn from Airline data.
• Build retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines and autonomous systems that support decision-making across millions of pricing scenarios.
• Develop AI solutions on Databricks and Mosaic AI, with a focus on scaling from prototype to production deployments.
• Construct MCP servers, and data integrations to handle diverse airline and market datasets, from search data to historical fares.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (domain experts, engineers, data scientists) to translate prototypes into reliable, production-ready systems.
• Establish best practices for AI model deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

You should have:

• 3+ years of hands-on experience as an AI/ML Engineer with proven production deployments on Databricks.
• Strong proficiency in Python, from notebooks through to production-level code.
• Experience building and deploying AI agents, autonomous systems, or agentic workflows.
• Familiarity with Mosaic AI, MCP server development, and RAG architectures.
• Ability to transition quickly from prototype → production in a fast-paced startup environment.
• A strong preference for candidates who have operated in early-stage ventures or high-growth environments, particularly in aviation, scheduling, fleet management, or logistics.
• High EQ and low ego; you thrive in collaboration and bring a problem-solving mindset.
