Principal Software Engineer

UNDO has recently been named one of four global winners of the $100M XPRIZE Carbon Removal competition, further giving recognition and credibility to enhanced rock weathering (ERW) as a carbon removal pathway, and UNDO as a scientific world leader in this field.

In addition to our successful ERW operations, we’re now leveraging our expertise and underlying technology to deliver a platform that will enable a global network of project developers to scale ERW to the gigaton level - essential in the fight against climate change.

This is a unique opportunity for a talented and driven principal / staff engineer or software architect to have a truly game changing impact in the fight against climate change.

Role overview

You will lead our technical team as we build, deploy and scale the SaaS solution that is at the heart of our ERW platform. You’ll combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership, working cross-functionally to ensure we’re building scalable, maintainable systems that can support rapid growth and scientific innovation.

Where you’ll spend your time

• Own the architecture and technical roadmap for our software platform, leading the design and development of robust and scalable solutions, APIs, and data infrastructure
• Collaborate closely with customers, product, data, science, and operations teams to understand user needs and translate them into technical solutions
• Provide hands-on coding and mentorship to the engineering team
• Set best practices for software development, testing, security, and deployment

We’d love to see from you

You’re likely a principal engineer, staff engineer, software architect or technically strong engineering manager / head of engineering.

• Proven experience building and scaling a global, full-stack, data-based SaaS platform ideally within a startup environment
• Deep expertise in software and data architecture, and cloud infrastructure (we use, Azure)
• Strong backend engineering skills across a range of languages and technologies
• Experience providing technical leadership within a full-stack agile team - owning the complete process from design, though deployment and maintenance of the platform, to customer support
• A track record of identifying and creating development opportunities for other engineers, helping them to become future technology leaders
• Strong communication skills, someone who can work across disciplines to align technical and business goals
• Passion for climate tech, sustainability, and science-driven innovation

Working environment

• We are a remote-friendly team, although we do have an amazing office in County Hall in central London. Our current tech team work from the office semi-regularly as a chance to collaborate but this is not essential.
• We recognise that there is no substitute for in-person time together and try to get the teams together regularly for in-person connection.
