ROLE SUMMARY
As an Electrical Engineer - BESS & Technology, you'll contribute to the evaluation of storage technologies, electrical design, testing coordination, and technical support for project implementation. This role requires multiple hands-on BESS experience, deploying at least two > 10MW deployments. This role requires coordinating with engineering, construction, project management and commissioning teams.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES
Evaluation and Design:
- Evaluate storage technologies with respect to project opportunity and assess various storage technologies, including modules, DC components, inverters, racking, BESS containers, BESS balance of plant equipment, and medium voltage systems, plus recommend suitable components for BESS projects.
- Design AC and DC electrical systems, including the creation of single-line schematics, circuit diagrams, and BOM.
- Conduct electrical studies and perform site investigations and inspections as needed.
- Review and incorporate electrical studies, including ampacity studies, load flow, reactive power capability, short circuit, grounding, and arc flash
- Engage with potential customers to promote the BESS solutions to meet their energy needs
- Responsible for documenting preliminary Bill of Materials, manuals, and safety system analysis.
- Ensure proposed solutions adhere to applicable industry standards and electrical engineering design principles: UL, IEEE, NFPA codes
- Understands and advises on the role of inverters and power control system technology
Testing and Support:
- Plan and execute electrical tests (FAT/SAT) on BESS systems to ensure functionality and safety.
- Document test results meticulously, offering technical support and collaborating with different departments as required.
- Manage the BESS commissioning process
Reporting and Communication:
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, providing transparent communication regarding project updates and requirements.
- Help potential customers move the system through interconnection and permitting processes
- Write test reports and make the necessary recommendations
- Technical support to the different departments involved in the advancement and implementation of projects.
- Meet with Authorities Having Jurisdiction to address open plan check comments, including structural, electrical, and fire-related comments
- Mentor other less experienced staff and provide technical support and guidance
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Hold a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university.
- Possess experience in protection and control systems, LV and MV power system design with power device interfaces and BESS systems.
- Preferably to know Microgrids, PPC, EMS/SCADA & PCS technologies.
- Familiarity with engineering software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, PSCAD, ETAP, and CYME.
- Participated in FAT, SAT & UAT testing & commissioning
- Experience in SLD, drawing electrical packages and reviewing engineering studies.
- Advantageous to have familiarity with protection relays (e.g., SEL, GE, ABB) and Professional Engineer (P. Eng) registration.
- Proficiency in data analysis and problem-solving.
