As a senior back end engineer on our web development team, you will help define new products and engineer the services empowering our customer-facing portal. You will integrate with our core engine and networking systems, develop scalable services for processing large volumes of data, and collaborate closely with our frontend engineers to deliver reliable, high-performance applications. This role requires strong Python expertise, experience with distributed systems and APIs, and the ability to operate effectively in a complex production environment.

What You’ll Do:

• Research & Invent: Develop scalable backend services powering new capabilities within our customer-facing portal, integrating with internal systems, and processing large volumes of operational data efficiently and reliably.
• Architect for Performance: Write clear, maintainable, and highly performant code.
• Quality Guardrails: Participate in rigorous code reviews to ensure that our codebase remains world-class.
• Design-First Engineering: Translate complex requirements into clear, predictable designs. You’ll participate in design reviews and change planning to ensure every move is calculated.

Core Requirements:

• Significant experience developing back end APIs supporting web client applications.
• Strong knowledge of server side languages and frameworks (prefer Python, Flask).
• Experience designing, implementing and integrating Web APIs (e.g. GraphQL / REST).
• Understanding of asynchronous programming methodologies.
• Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, Redis).
• Knowledge of modern web technologies (e.g. HTML5, JavaScript/TypeScript).
• Familiarity with SPA web frameworks (e.g. Angular, React, Vue).
• Comfortable working in Linux development environment.
• Strong understanding of computer security principles.
• Interest in solving problems and the desire to never stop learning.
• Experience with TDD and testing frameworks.
• Experience integrating with external APIs and third party libraries.
• Proven ability to learn quickly and solve significant problems with minimal direction.
• Experience with Continuous Integration / Deployment is a plus.
• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math is preferred.
• Must possess the highest level of personal integrity, value team success over individual achievement, and enjoy working on a fully remote team in a very high tech environment.
