The Role: Want to be a part of our exciting growth journey?

This is a new role in our Invoices team, where you will take technical ownership of our core AP automation product, including the LLM-powered tooling that sits at the heart of how we extract, interpret, and action invoice data for our customers.

You'll shape the technical direction of the product, set the bar for engineering excellence across the team, and drive the architectural decisions that define our next phase of scale.

We expect you to be passionate about highly scalable, fault-tolerant, globally distributed systems, and LLMs in production. Our systems are built on a micro-services, event-driven architecture using Google Cloud.

As a Principal Engineer, you operate with a high level of agency, influence well beyond your immediate team, and care deeply about the outcomes you deliver for Traild and its customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Set the technical vision and architectural direction for our Invoices platform, including the LLM systems that power AP automation.
• Lead the design and development of highly scalable, reliable, secure, and fault-tolerant systems using state-of-the-art technology.
• Define and execute against both short and long-term technical roadmaps. Make effective trade-offs that balance business priorities, user experience, model performance, and a sustainable technical foundation.
• Drive complex, cross-cutting projects from idea formulation to implementation across our global infrastructure and customer base.
• Raise the engineering bar across the team through mentorship, design reviews, and hands-on technical leadership.
• Partner with product managers, data science, and other engineering teams to build new features and products that create meaningful impact for our customers.
• Act as a trusted technical advisor to leadership, translating complex technical decisions into clear business context

Who You Are

• 10+ years of experience in hands-on technical roles, with a strong background in software engineering and architectural design at scale.
• Demonstrated experience leading engineering strategy for complex products, ideally including AI/ML or LLM-powered systems in production.
• Deep understanding of the trade-offs involved in building with LLMs — latency, cost, accuracy, evaluation, and guardrails.
• Exceptional communication skills, with a knack for breaking down technical details and decisions for non-technical audiences and influencing at senior levels.
• Proven ability to go deep, understand both the domain and complex customer needs, and translate that understanding into technical strategy.
• Excited to work in a fast-paced environment, where you are continuously honing your craft and setting the standard for others.
• Experience in dotnet core & C# working in a cloud-native environment, or strong experience with other modern programming languages (e.g., Java, Go, Kotlin, Python).
• Strong collaborator with an attitude embracing growth, hands-on execution, adaptability, and the scale-up spirit.
• Very nice to have — direct experience in fintech, AP automation, or document intelligence / OCR / LLM-based data extraction products
