Toybox Labs (Remote)
Toybox is a first of its kind 3D printer and creativity platform that lets kids find, design, and build the toys they love right at home. By combining an affordable 3D printer with a powerful, kid-friendly software platform, Toybox is on a mission to put a Toybox in every child's home and become a defining brand in the toy industry.
Toybox is one of the fastest-growing companies in consumer 3D printing, averaging over 20% annual revenue growth and hundreds of thousands of printers sold. Were well positioned in the space and are now expanding our platform with new machine learning–powered experiences.
Were looking for a Machine Learning Engineer who is excited to build creative, interactive AI features that kids will actually use. Youll help expand our existing generative AI systems and develop new ML-driven capabilities that run both in the cloud and directly on our printers.
This role blends applied ML, product thinking, and creativity. Youll work closely with a small, highly collaborative team to turn real ideas into shipped features.
Expanding our generative AI systems for creating 3D models from text and images
Computer vision features such as print failure (spaghetti) detection
Recommendation systems (e.g., other toys you may like)
ML features that run close to the hardware and enhance the on-printer experience
Improving internal ML infrastructure to enable faster experimentation and iteration
Responsibilities**
Design, implement, and ship machine learning features end-to-end
Apply existing ML models as well as train and fine-tune custom models when needed
Collaborate with product and engineering to scope, plan, and deliver features
Maintain a high bar for quality, performance, and reliability
Contribute ideas for new ML-driven experiences and future platform directions
Required Qualifications**
3+ years of professional experience working with machine learning systems
Experience implementing classifiers and/or generative AI models in production
Experience with 3D technologies (3D printing, modeling, simulation, or game development)
Comfortable working in a remote-first environment
Clear communication skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
Experience with 3D modeling or geometry-focused algorithms
Background in recommendation systems or computer vision
Working knowledge of Rust and/or TypeScript
Hands-on experience with 3D printers
Strong foundation in algorithms and complex spatial problems
Comfort working across a diverse technology stack
