About the Role
Skool is looking for its first Data Scientist to help shape how data science is used across the company. Reporting to the Head of Data, you’ll work on product discovery, recommendations, personalization, and growth initiatives that help users find relevant communities and people on the platform.
This is a hands-on role focused on improving the consumer product through data, machine learning, and experimentation. You’ll partner with Product, Growth, and Engineering to identify opportunities, test ideas, and improve activation, engagement, retention, and advertising performance.
One of the main priorities is making it easier for users to discover the right communities and connections. You’ll help develop and improve feed, search, ranking, recommendation, and matchmaking systems while turning data insights into measurable product improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and improve recommendation, ranking, search, feed, and personalization models that help users discover relevant communities and people.
- Lead data science projects across product, growth, and user engagement, from initial analysis through implementation and measurement.
- Use real-time data to identify opportunities, test ideas quickly, and refine models based on observed outcomes.
- Develop predictive models to improve activation, retention, and other important user journeys.
- Design and run experiments, analyze results, and translate findings into clear product and business decisions.
- Partner with the Growth team to evaluate and improve advertising performance, including its impact on user acquisition and engagement.
- Work closely with Product and Engineering to turn data science findings into practical solutions.
- Take ownership of ambiguous problems, determine where data science can have the greatest impact, and move projects forward independently.
Required Qualifications
- Deep experience in data science, with a track record of using analysis, experimentation, and modeling to grow a consumer product.
- Hands-on experience building recommendation, matchmaking, ranking, search, or personalization systems.
- Strong knowledge of machine learning and statistical modeling, with experience using Python and tools such as scikit-learn.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify meaningful opportunities in complex or ambiguous problems.
- A practical, experiment-driven approach, with the ability to test ideas, learn from results, and make informed decisions quickly.
- Comfort managing real budgets, taking calculated risks, learning from unsuccessful experiments, and adjusting direction based on results.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize important problems, and take ownership without needing constant direction.
- A tool-agnostic approach to data science, with a focus on accurate analysis and measurable business impact rather than a particular technology stack.
- Ability to write production-quality code and implement real-time solutions, or work closely with Engineering to deliver them when offline analysis is not sufficient.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience optimizing advertising, customer acquisition, or other performance marketing systems.
