Backend Engineer II (Remote)

About the Role

Our client is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join an early-stage engineering team building mission-critical infrastructure software for large-scale data center environments.

The platform monitors environmental conditions, predicts potential failures before outages occur, and improves efficiency across complex physical infrastructure. With established enterprise traction, the company is moving from its minimum viable product (MVP) stage toward an enterprise-scale platform.

This is a high-ownership engineering role focused on building reliable distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and backend platforms for real-world, mission-critical environments. The position requires strong systems thinking, distributed systems expertise, and hands-on experience with Go and AWS.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and scale distributed backend systems using Go (Golang).
• Develop real-time sensor and event ingestion systems.
• Scale and maintain cloud infrastructure on AWS.
• Design and support multi-region and high-availability systems.
• Develop and maintain edge device orchestration and device data flows.
• Improve backend reliability, observability, and performance.
• Build and maintain public-facing and internal APIs.
• Develop and support data pipelines and analytics infrastructure.
• Contribute to future machine learning and predictive analytics infrastructure.
• Integrate edge device data with cloud-based analytics systems.
• Support multi-Availability Zone (AZ) architecture and enterprise-readiness initiatives.
• Scale infrastructure to support international deployments.

Required Qualifications

• 6–10+ years of backend engineering experience.
• Strong systems thinking and architectural judgment.
• Production experience with Go/Golang.
• Experience designing and scaling distributed systems.
• Experience with AWS or other cloud infrastructure.
• Strong API architecture and development experience.
• Experience with SQL and PostgreSQL.
• Startup experience.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical decisions.
• Comfort working with ambiguity, rapid iteration, and changing priorities.
• Ability to operate autonomously without extensive mentorship.

• Infrastructure or platform engineering background.
• Experience with edge computing or device management.
• Experience with Docker and containerization.
• Experience with Redis or caching technologies.
• Experience building reliability and observability systems.
• Experience with IoT or real-world connected systems.
• Experience working in high-scale technology environments.
• Experience with event-driven or real-time systems.
• Experience designing multi-region or high-availability architectures.
