# Senior Software Engineer

## About the Role

Mento is seeking a product-minded Senior Software Engineer with experience working with data to help build its AI and software coaching platform, along with AI- and software-based tools that augment human coaches.

You’ll join a small engineering team and work closely with design and coaching to create product experiences that bring coaching into a software platform. This is a product-focused, early-stage startup role involving AI capabilities, data integrations, and 0-to-1 product development.

This role is open only to candidates located in the United States or Canada.

## Key Responsibilities

* Build and ship product features and experiences from 0-to-1.

* Make technical trade-offs and take appropriate risks in an early-stage product environment.

* Design AI-enabled application capabilities built on foundational models with an emphasis on adaptability, reuse, and scalability.

* Work with coaches to translate coaching workflows and insights into high-quality AI Agents and product experiences.

* Design and build scalable, reusable pipelines and integrations for importing and exporting data.

* Integrate the product with productivity and learning and development tools.

* Educate and mentor team members on data and AI best practices through peer mentorship, code reviews, lunch-and-learns, and other knowledge-sharing activities.

## Required Qualifications

* Experienced software engineer with experience shipping data-related products into production for real users.

* Experience with dynamic programming languages.

* Experience building server-side web applications.

* Understanding of core data engineering and software architecture concepts for modern data-based applications.

* Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, ambiguous early-stage startup environment.

* Experience integrating LLM-based coding tools into software development workflows.

## Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with event-driven architectures.

* Experience with traditional web stacks such as Ruby on Rails or Laravel.

* Experience designing search indexes.

* Experience designing and implementing data pipelines.

* Experience building early-stage products.
