Lead Backend Engineer - Permanent, Full-time - Fully Remote - Based in Europe

Overview

My client is redefining e-commerce with AI, helping businesses create hyper-personalized shopping experiences through AI-powered virtual assistants. They're looking for a Lead Backend Engineer to take ownership of product architecture, AI-powered search, and scalable infrastructure. You’ll lead a small team (2-3 developers) and play a key role in building AI-driven applications, search algorithms, and backend systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead backend development and oversee architecture & scalability of AI-driven products.
• Work on AI-powered search & retrieval using RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), System Prompts & AI Agents.
• Develop API integrations & backend services to support AI-driven customer interactions.
• Deploy & manage infrastructure across Supabase, Azure, and GCP.
• Collaborate with frontend & AI teams to deliver seamless, real-time search applications.

Requirements

• Experienced in leading 2-3 developers on AI or search-based products.
• Comfortable working with either LLMs, RAG, AI Agents, or search algorithms.
• Strong SQL, Supabase experience
• Familiar with SvelteKit, TypeScript, or at least open to working with modern frontend stacks.
• Infrastructure & Scalability Mindset – Managed deployments on Vercel, Supabase, Azure, GCP.
