Lead Sr Java Engineer, Healthcare Focus

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Engineer to play a key role in designing,

developing, and maintaining their large-scale, high-transaction applications. The ideal candidate

will have deep expertise in Java/J2EE, experience in healthcare and EDI X12 transactions, and a

proven ability to work with offshore teams. This role requires hands-on coding, architectural

decision-making, and collaboration across teams to ensure the delivery of robust and scalable

software solutions.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

● Java Development: Write high-quality, scalable, and maintainable code in Java/J2EE,

ensuring best practices in software development.

● Healthcare & EDI X12 Expertise: Develop and maintain applications supporting HIPAA-

compliant healthcare transactions, including X12 EDI (e.g., claims processing, eligibility

verification, remittances, and payments).

● Large Application Management: Design and optimize systems that handle millions of

transactions per month, ensuring performance and scalability.

● Architecture & Code Quality: Participate in architectural discussions, conduct code

reviews, and contribute to the adoption of best practices.

● Offshore Collaboration: Work closely with offshore development teams, ensuring

smooth coordination and high-quality deliverables.

● Problem Solving & Debugging: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, security

issues, and software defects in production and development environments.

● Cross-functional Collaboration: Engage with Product Managers, Business Analysts, and

QA teams to define requirements and align technical solutions with business needs.

● Security & Compliance: Ensure applications comply with healthcare security standards,

including HIPAA and data protection regulations.

Key Success Factors:

● Expertise in Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and Microservices architecture.

● Strong knowledge of EDI X12 transactions and healthcare integrations.

● Ability to manage and optimize applications handling high-volume transactions (e.g.,

23M+ claims per month).

● Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL,

MongoDB, etc.).

● Experience collaborating with offshore teams and leading remote development efforts.

● Strong analytical and debugging skills to troubleshoot complex issues.

● Excellent communication skills to work with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills):

● Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

● 7+ years of experience in Java development with expertise in J2EE frameworks.

● 3+ years of experience working in healthcare technology, with a focus on EDI X12

transactions.

● Hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Hibernate, RESTful APIs, and Microservices

architecture.

● Experience handling high-transaction applications and optimizing system performance.

● Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker,

Kubernetes) is a plus.

● Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

● Experience with FHIR and HL7 standards.

● Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools.

● Experience in dental or healthcare claims processing.
