_Senior Data Scientist

Thompson Gray, a rapidly growing employee-owned company, is seeking a Senior Data Scientist for full-time, remote work.

Job Description

Thompson Gray is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to support the Veterans Affairs (VA) Financial Services Center (FSC) based in Austin, TX. The Senior Data Scientist helps derive insight and understanding from large data sets through data visualization, building informative reports / dashboards, application of statistical methods, and deep investigation. Possesses knowledge of appropriate data sources to address the specific requirements of projects for monitoring, characterization, analysis, and modeling. Performs scientific research, scientific writing, and editing, including the writing and editing of project products to established government standards for the targeted science and lay audiences, proofreading of draft and final documents. Advanced knowledge in using data visualization effectively to tell a story and drive action by presenting information, defining and designing KPI based dashboards / reports that summarize customer insights and highlight "hot spots" for the customer, working with Data Engineers, Data Architects, and Solutions Architects, to define back-end requirements for data products (aggregations, materialized views, tables - visualization), data investigation to discover correlations / trends and the ability to explain them, and collaborate with internal and external customers to develop an analytics portfolio consistent with the vision and goals of our stakeholders. Knowledge in SQL programming skills with an understanding of database capabilities.

Required Skills

  • US Citizen (NO EXCEPTIONS)
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 10+ years data science or data analytics experience

Desired Skills

  • Currently maintains or has ability to successfully pass and retain a Public Trust review
  • 10+ years of IT experience including experience in development of large-scale, complex data architectures
  • Knowledge of Data Science and Data Analytics concepts and tools
  • Knowledge of Data Management and Data Architecture concepts
  • Experience in creation of data models
  • Demonstrated experience translating business and technical requirements into comprehensive data strategies and analytic solutions
  • Participation in all aspects of the application lifecycle: requirements analysis and definition, data design, architecture and integration as well as data visualization and advanced analytics
  • Support data analytics platforms for data reporting and visualization across multiple integrated lines of business with dynamic and flexible ad-hoc reporting, historical trending, predictive analytics, and others
  • Analyze large, complex systems and data to identify semantic gaps, performance bottlenecks, and data errors as well as uncover opportunities to improve efficiency
  • Demonstrated ability to derive hierarchical relationships from undocumented, flat data
  • Lead efforts to design, implement, and support enterprise scale data analytics

Salary Range

  • $95,000 to $130,000
